A sump pump helped out our wet basement greatly. We had one installed on opposite sides of the room and it got rid of the wet smell.

french drain, google it. friends in nh had one put in.

is this typical in your part. we live on cape cod and run a dehumidifier throughout the year due to moisture problem. before we got it we had giant puddles about 1/2"deep all over the basement.

other friends in nh painted the interior of their basement with waterproofing paint. it was a 'pita' and required countless number of cans (not cheap and SUPER thick) but it worked. good luck.
