I have a high end kitchen aid side by side fridge + dishwasher. They are about 7 years old now. Anyways, not that thrilled with either of them. Both are set up badly. They dont use space efficiently.

I can see the appeal of everything matching...nice and easy. But then I'd be concerned about whether I really want to cook with the matching oven for the next 10-15 years vs picking something that is the best fit for my (functional) needs.
Agreed!

My last house had all Kitchenaid except for the refrigerator. Wasn't all that impressed. The dishwasher was fairly quiet tho. More quiet than my current Whirlpool, but that's to be expected since it's a higher model (same family).

Actually, there was just a post about this on gardenweb. KA dishwashers and refrigerators have a good rep, but no the cooking appliances. I just bought a Bosch dishwasher, and am looking at a Samsung refrigerator, Electrolux induction range, and advantium microwave.

I guess it depends on what you want out of them. Kitchen aid works just fine for a regular not great cook like myself. A friend, however, who is a chef level cook, hates their ovens

Are you getting stainless? If so then you might have a harder time matching from different brands. I think frigidaire has a "smudgeproof" stainless. We have a clean steel fridge from GE (not stainless) that I love because it hardly ever shows any sort of fingerprints at all. We're about to buy a new over-range-microwave, and I'm debating what to get since I hate the idea of having to keep real stainless clean.
