Default Android and google users: a few Qs

So, Dh and I finally bought a pair of Androids. Samsung Exhibit. I haven't used it much yet because Dh is trying to figure out if there is some way we can access our Google account for stuff like email, docs, calendar, and do FB without getting all of our "info" sucked into the cloud for someone to see. For example, he wants to create a straw man Google account, and access our real accounts that way, so that our accounts don't get linked to too many other areas out there. My question is, can this really be done? And if so, how? Another thing, I remember last year on FB there was that alert that one's cellphone number was visible to all your friends. I checked an mine didn't even appear on my profile, but I could see all of my friends' cell numbers. I couldn't figure out why, then reasoned it might be because they all have smartphones and use it for FB. But I talked with a friend today and she doesn't have any issues. She also said that when you suddenly see people's location posted on FB it's because they deliberately put it out there. She always uses the FB app to get in, and has never had security issues. In addition, you can always turn off the GPS if you want. Which according to our manual, is a power saving device anyway. But she has an iphone, so I don't know if their security measures are different from Androids.

We have two weeks before we can return them if they don't work for us, and one week has already gone by. I really don't know how much Dh can learn in the next 7 days just playing with his phone for 20 minutes each night. Can anyone weigh in?

I did check in here Saturday night, and saw Tapatalk. Is that the app for this forum? I also found that trying to read this board on a teeny little screen gives me a headache after a while

For browsing (including FB and here) I use Opera Mini (not Mobile), and I love it.

I have never used the FB app, so I can't speak to that. Mini strips out a lot of junk from webpages and makes it look great on a tiny screen.

You can have one gmail pull in other gmail accounts. You'd set that up on the computer end.

However, I have two separate gmail accounts on my phone. But, to download, etc, it is always the "main" account, the other JUST gets email. So, pick your strawman account for the main / account stuff, then set up the other to just check like any old account.

My GPS is off on photos by default, and only on when I'm using google maps.
