We got a Volvo last year and love it. Besides the luxe feel, what really influenced our decision was the 5 year/50k maintenance plan. It covers everything but tires. Definitely the most inclusive plan on the market. We got the XC-70 turbo wagon and couldn't be happier. If we needed an SUV, we would've gone with the XC-90.

Agree with the others. Hubby is still driving his 1997 Honda CR-V, so it is great for longevity, although it is not anymore spacious than my 2009 Toyota Camry. With 2 kids and all their stuff, I would look for an optional 3rd row, and not a Volvo, as they seem to require regular maintenance. The Pilot recommendation is a good one! They are also more spacious than the similar Toyota Highlander, although the latter does come in a hybrid form.

The oldest type of CRV was a very small one. The mid 2000's version was MUCH roomier, even roomier than the current model IIRC. OP, are you looking at new or used? Which year?

Are you looking at a Volvo XC70 (wagon) or SUV (XC90?). I come from a family of Volvo owners- my parents have had 5 in the course of my lifetime- 4 wagons and 1 SUV- they have gotten their mileage out of them too- the 85 240 wagon was the car my brother and I learned to drive on- I think it made it to 240K miles. They are very tall- dad is 6'5" and mom is 6'. They enjoy the space, esp legroom. Currently mom drives a wagon and dad an SUV. Both are really nice and much roomier than the cars DH and I drive (Subaru Outback and Honda Accord). My mom's wagon has some pick up when driving- and yet also handles really good in snow (in winter mode, as evidenced in Feb, when I borrowed it and had to go above 500 ft to return it!)
I would probably pick a Volvo over the CRV, esp if I was going with a wagon. But if I was wanting a SUV, I may consider the Pilot. I am not as much of a fan of the newer design of the Pilot- I like the previous design model (prior to 2010) as it doesn't seem so big. That might be one reason why I would compare the Volvo xc90. GL in your decision! |
