Default Is crib conversion kit necessary?

We are planning to convert dd's crib to full size. The conversion kit is $90. Is it really necessary? Can the head/foot boards be attached to a universal bed frame or do the make universal conversion kits that are cheaper? Don't want to buy it if I don't have to.

It depends on the crib you have. I think there are a few universal type kits on amazon. check the reviews.
