Default Help me plan a day in New York - all by myself!

I will be staying near Union Square in NYC from Sunday night through mid-day Tuesday. I am planning on going to MOMA on Monday (I've never been) and catching a movie that night. I will definitely be swinging through the Union Square farmers market Monday morning & shopping at Fishs Eddy. I may swing up to Grand Central to go to Penzey's Spice.
Any recommendations on good, casual places to eat? I will be getting around using the subway & buses.

Any suggestions?

if you sew, you can shop in wonderful warehouse-y places & get some fabric - i found the addresses online searching for stuff like 'new york city fabric'. i found a great deli just walking around. i hope you have a blast! ooh, also go into tiffany's and just try stuff on!

What all do you like to do?

You mentioned MoMA, which I've never visited, but I've been to the Guggenheim (5th Ave & 89th St) once on a whim ... it was very interesting.

There are a ton of great places to eat in the Union Square area, from the Union Square Cafe (which might be a good place to hit for lunch) to Heartland Brewery to, yes, McDonald's. This is a listing from Yelp:

http://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc...New+York%2C+NY

If you haven't already, check out the Time Out NY website (http://www.timeout.com/newyork) and/or the NYC Travel & Tourism bureau (http://www.nycgo.com/) for other things to do.

If you're hitting the Farmer's Market, may I suggest stopping by Rick's Picks? They're "gourmet" pickles, the sellers are friendly and knowledgeable ... and I usually buy 2 jars when I visit their stand: http://rickspicksnyc.com/

If you'd like to try and catch a show, most theatres are dark Monday, but several good ones have a "Tuesdays at 7" showtime (IDK when you're planning to leave town) that might fit in well with your travel plans. For a spur-of-the-moment, don't much care what you see option, try the TKTS booths in either Times Square or South Street Seaport: http://www.tdf.org/TDF_ServicePage.aspx?id=56
