I bought a costume for DD last year after Halloween on clearance for this year. Of course she tried it on yesterday and it is way to small! Well, the more I think about it, she really doesn't have anywhere to wear the costume...DH will be travelling for work over Halloween, so she won't be going out trick or treating (also she is in bed every night by 7, so there's that as well). Our mom's club halloween party is in the middle of October and I will have family visiting so we won't be at that party. The only Halloween event she will go to is at her Mother's Day Out program on Oct. 31. They are having a "party" (no candy or cupcakes since they are still pretty little!) and can wear their costumes to school. I don't think DD will even want to keep a costume on herself all day, plus it will likely get nasty from eating lunch, etc. She has a very cute Halloween outfit I got her from Target (leggings and a matching shirt) and I would be just happy with her wearing that, as will she. But I don't want to be a party pooper, either. Do you think I should buy a costume just for her to wear to MDO for the one morning? I was thinking of telling them that she refused to wear her costume that day but I don't want to lie, kwim? She's still too young to enjoy it or know what is going on anyhow.

I don't think you're being a party pooper. Send her in her cute Halloween outfit. The only reason my DS had a costume for his first Halloween was because one was handed down to me. And I need to check to see if last year's costume still fits him. For me, I just can't see spending big bucks on one.

I'd just go with the Target outfit as long as she's happy. You could always buy a funny hat or cute animal ears or something to go with it if that would make you feel better. If she's like my kid, she won't keep them on, but you could snap a couple of pictures and send her in to MDO with them. . . .

I think your Target outfit will be great. It would be different if you had a lot of places that you would be going to where she would be dressed up in a costume. She will be wearing a Halloween outfit that day so you can take a picture of her in that outfit!
Enjoy and don't worry! Chris

I don't think you're being a party pooper at all Margaret. I say why bother buying another costume when DD has the Target outfit to wear (especially if she'll only be wearing it that one morning!). Just take pictures,I'm sure she'll look adorable in her Halloween outfit!

I think you should put her in the cute Halloween outfit for the MDO party. She will look just as cute and she will be comfortable too! If she won't be trick or treating and doesn't have any other events, I wouldn't spend money on a costume.

I agree with everyone else--go with the Target outfit. You can always add some ears or face paint if you feel the need to take it to another level.

Not at all! I think the oufit will be cute and comfortable for both of you.
My 20 mo will be wearing an outfit instead of a costume this year too ( black leggings, shoes, and shirt which I sewed a felt bat onto, and little matching bat bows for her hair). I'm just not into costumes and dd's peanut allergy means no trick or treating for her, so she'll get to pass the candy out at our house instead. She'll get a kick out of seeing the other kids dressed up but doesn't care what she's wearing. |
