I'm 35 weeks pregnant and thinking about purchasing an electric breast pump. I read the Baby Bargains book and remember reading that you could get used breast pumps on E-Bay ...
What do you think about this? Do you think this is a good idea? Wouldn't I need to get some sort of replacement parts in order for this idea to work and so everything is sanitary? Please advise. |

I don't know if it's a good idea or not. I do know, however, that you can order replacement parts for the breast pump from the manufacturer. Also, it's a good idea to wait on the breast pump until after the baby is born. If this is your first child, you may find that you are unable to breastfeed.

I borrowed a medala pump from a friend. I don't think this is a problem. You just sterilize it.

I agree-- a used pump is fine. There are some old threads about this, too, so you might do a search. (And don't worry-- chances are excellent that you will breastfeed just fine. If you have any concerns, talk to an LC. There's no substitute for trained support when you and your baby are learning the skill of nursing.)

I think using a breastpump from someone you know is different than getting one on ebay because you don't know how many people have used it.
I know most manufacturers don't advocate sharing pumps except for hospital grade machines which are made for sharing. I would do more research before you decide to do this. There are some great pumps like the Ameda Purely Yours that isn't too expensive. Also, you might want a new machine with a guarantee and warranty. If you do decide to get a used pump, you need to get new tubing and horns. A Lacation Consultant might also be able to give you some good information. |

I bought my Ameda Purely Yours pump from eBay. It was an Ameda dealer who was selling brand new pumps (came in a factory sealed box). I got it for a lot cheaper than I could find it anywhere else on-line.
I don't think I would buy a used pump on eBay, but you can find new ones there. Sarah..... |

I was thinking about buying a pump too (currently using a borrowed one), and researched on the web a bit. Found this dealer that sells new pumps on ebay (factory sealed), for what seems to be a good price
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...&category=1261 and they promise other things in the package. hope this helps... |
