Personal Experience with Safety Gates Wanted

It's time to buy some safety gates for around the house. I would realy like to avoid having to mount the gates to our woodwork or to any walls. The pressure mounted gates look ideal, but I've heard some complaints that they don't stay up well, and they can leave permanent indentations in walls. I'd like to hear of anybody else's experiences.

You gotta' get one of the First Years doorway gates that has the foot pedal where you can open it with your knee - - - hands free. It doesn't require drilling holes and doesn't mar your doorway.
