Thank you all so much...it sounds like signing times is a universal favourite. Also, thank you for the library idea, we have a library right next door and I wouldn't even have thought of looking there. Seems like most kids her age watch some tv, so maybe limiting to 15 mins twice a day will give grandma a break as well.
Thanks again!

We bought our DD several Christian DVDs when she was a few months old. Whenever we decided to start letting her watch a little tv, we used them. She is now 16 months old, and she enjoys Elmo, Wiggles, etc. But... her very favorite shows are the Christian DVDs. I have to admit they are simple but adorable. (They are not cartoon based, they have real children, puppets and various objects.)
We purchased these: God Made Music God Made Animals The Praise Baby Collection (3 different DVDs) R.W. |

At about that age we started occasionally watching the Scholastic videos:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...v=glance&n=130 These are books made into animated videos that are very true to the original. They don't involve a lot of flashy, up-to-date animation. DD at 22 months still loves, loves, loves them and the adults in the house find them just as nice as the books (we all have some we don't like; fortunately only one of her favorites annoys DH). DH can't bear the idea of her watching videos until the moment we're on an airplane and she's shrieking, at which point suddenly it's not bad for her little brain... of course at that point long-term consequences are a lot less compelling to him than usual. SIL lets her watch them pretty much every day they're together (which isn't all that often). I let her watch them about once a month, usually. |

Try the Baby Bumblebee videos. They are very educational - recommended by my son's speech therapist. My son learned a lot of words from them. And, no, a video isn't going to hurt her, especially under these circumstances.

Thank you all for all the recommendations....wow, those baby bumble bee videos are cute, I'll look for the vocabulary builder in the library or otherwise look at it onlien. It would be awesome to get her something that helps her talk and understand, we live in a quadrilingual house between us and the babysitters and so I'm concerned that all the variety of languages may confuse her so something that concentrates on vocal building would be great.
Thanks so much again for all the recommendations and reasuurance, I guess I'll be pre-screening a lot of baby videos this weekend!!! Ady
