My mom wants to buy DD a new horse for her 2nd birthday, We have a short toddler horse that she is out gowing (one of those really tiny spring horses) she goes crazy on that thing, doing tricks etc. So I'm not sure whether we should get her a big bounct horse or a rody? Is the rody more babyish, she might out grow it fast or are the 2 totally different?
Thanks Corina |

DD got Rody for her 2nd birthday and every kid who has been over here since has loved that thing!

Sorry if this is hijack, op, but...
I never even heard of Rody horses until this thread and I looked them up--they look adorable! We were thinking rocking horse, but this might just be the thing. So, what is the deal with inflating them as they grow? Are they too smushy when they are not inflated as much for little ones--how does that work? Also, how long do you think these fit? I looked on a few sites and saw age ranges like 18mo-3 years--but then I saw sites that said 3years-5! Finally, do you have the rocker part or just the horse? How do they play with just the horse? I hope these questions don't sound dense (okay, I know they do...) but I am so excited about these! PS DD is 17mo and will be 20mo by Dec and is extremely active!! |

We've been thinking about a spring horse too, but maybe a Rody would be better! I am so glad you asked this question. I need to investigate the Rody more.

One of the independent toystores around here has them in the store and every time we went in, DD would spend almost all her time on the thing, laughing hysterically. You can inflate them as much as you want, they get get slightly taller and more bouncy. DD's feet reach well on either side of it but two of her shorter friends don't quite and they are constantly falling off of it, but they laugh hysterically the whole time they do it.
DD is a jumper and bouncer so she seems to really like it. It's not something she does for hours at a time, just many times throughout the day she runs over to it (She named it "Beepo") and has a jump for a few minutes, laughing hysterically. Holli |

Imagine sitting on a physio ball/exercise ball/birthing ball and just bouncing up and down on it. My active DS is 14mo. and this is what he does with it, he also kisses it and knocks it over. I imagine that older ones will be able to bounce all over.
We don't have the rocking base as he has couple of other rocking horses/motorcyle but if we didn't I would've gotten the base. I would say the age range is from when they start cruising/walking to 3yrs, maybe 4yrs if on the small side. No, it's not too smushy when not as inflated as the material is not flimsy, it's thicker than a physio ball. I like that the size can be adjusted to suit the child, it's light and very portable, doesn't take up much room, can be used in pretend play, and it can be deflated to store. I was really excited about the Rody, too when I heard about it on this board last year and was glad DS was old enough to finally get it, very much worth it! I think your DD is at a perfect age for it!!:-)

Thanks, that's exactly the info I needed. I love that it doesn't take up as much space as the RF rock and bounce spring pony. Between a horsie, her other toys and the big things we hope to buy eventually (kitchen, table&chairs, train set) DH and I will have to move into the garage-lol!

I know, I didn't realize kids took up so much space! I so envy people with basements. . .
