We will be having DS's 1st Birthday party on the day before Easter (7 April) so that is what is making this difficult. I dont have a clue on what to put in his Easter Basket. Candy is definitely out but what else can I do? DH and I are having a hard time figuring this out because the most recent Easter Baskets we can remember getting we were much older and my consisted of books and clothes while his consisted of Baseball gloves, balls, etc. What to do?
Any suggestions?

It has been awhile, but DD was close to a year last Easter. I'll try to remember some of the things we put in hers.
Books, egg shakers, packages of her favorite snacks, fruit, bubbles, crayons, wooden cars, gosh I can't remember what else! I'll have to check the pictures and come back! ETA: We also put in a M&D Jumbo knob puzzle, new straw cup, t-shirt, and a pair or Robeez shoes. This is a fantastic thread from last year that might help! http://www.windsorpeak.com/dc/dcboar...id=48137#48143

I think some simple things will work fine. I remember giving my girls little egg shakers, small board books and maybe bunny-shaped sippy cups when they were that young. Just little treat-like things. When they were older, we gave them egg-shaped sidewalk chalk, but it might not be the best for a little one.

I bought an easter basket with DS's name monogrammed on it from PBK.
Inside, I think, were some spring-themed board books, some playsilks, and some felted eggs that DH and I made. We also gave DS a small wooden abacus that has both beads and birds. I tried to make a knitted bunny, but we all came down with the stomach flu, so I never finished it. My mother sewed DS a stuffed rabbit. I think I also gave him one other wooden toy. |

Play silks! Last year (DD was around 18 months) we gave her a set of play silks from atoygarden.com and some egg shakers that I got at a local music (instruments, not albums) store. Those play silks have to be the single best toy investment we've ever made, as they get a lot of play time from DD and every child who comes to our house.
Other than that, board or picture books about Easter/bunnies/etc are good. Crayons, stickers, little plastic eggs filled with Annie's bunny shaped crackers... Or, there's a Little People Easter themed train on the Fisher-Price website (DD is going to get that this year, since she loves trains but we're not interested in having a huge train table in our very small living room.) But really, for that age, I think play silks and egg shakers are wonderful. Sarah :)

Is 12mo old enough for crayons? We have had him do finger paints but no oher art activities.
And we got him a set of playsilks for Christmas but maybe I can find some bigger ones in a cute pastel color for Easter. Thanks!

We let Abigail have crayons at 12 months, but she still put them in her mouth until around 14 months.

I think the crayons are really dependent on your child. DD put them in her mouth a few times, and took a chunk out of one once. She promptly spit out that chunk and never put one in her mouth again - obviously to her it tasted horrible. On the other hand, I have friends whose 2 year olds still nibble occasionally...
