Default Which LATCH? Evenflo Triumph or Britax Expressway?

My 6 1/2 month old is going to outgrow his infant seat soon, and we are looking for a LATCH-compatible seat. Which one should we purchase, the Evenflo Triumph (rear-facing until about 30 lbs) or the Britax Expressway (forward-facing only). I like Britax, but I am concerned that the Expressway is only forward-facing. Should I be? Unfortunately I think we will need this seat in the next month or two, so we can't wait until Fall 2002 for Britax's planned LATCH-compatible seats. Any advice is very much appreciated. Thank you!

I would definitely go with the Evenflo Triumph. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that you keep your baby rearfacing as long as possible.(most seats allow 30lbs, the bare minimum is 20lbs AND one year of age) At 6 1/2 months your son is definitely too young. I think it's great you're concerned about his safety and want to make sure you're doing the right thing. I hope this has been some help to you. Good luck!

I agree with the other poster. The Expressway is an excellent seat, but you need a convertible. Your son can stay rear facing until he reaches the weight limit on his seat (probably 30 pounds) or his head is within an inch of the top of it, which hopefully won't happen until he is 18-24 months old. 12 months is a bare minimum. So the convertible will be a good investment.

There are several other seats that have latch retrofit kits. The Cosco Triad comes with latch. The Evenflo Triumph and Titan accept the Evenflo latch kit. The Century Accel and Bravo accept the Century kit.

Of these, I agree that the Triumph is a nice choice.

And you are correct that your son won't last until Britax comes out with a latch kit in Fall 2002.

Default followup -- RE: Which LATCH? Evenflo Triumph or Britax Expressway?

Hi, Thank you so much for your posts and your advice! I just thought others might like to know I found the Evenflo Triumph (with blue cover) at my local WalMart, marked down from $130 to $90. I don't know why or if other stores are doing same, but I thought others might want to check it out.
