Can the FPSE Convertible carseat be used up to 30 lbs rf in Canada safely???

After seeing the posts by Piglet and KathyO, I went and did a bit of research myself and found this...

There it is in black and white, so to speak :) :) :) We can go to FP and TC with this.

Unfortunately, this doesn't come off of Fisher-Price's site; I suspect that it is just sloppy transcription by whoever was assembling this e-commerce site. They put together the weight numbers available from F-P's site (the rep from Canada's Infant and Toddler Safety Association complains bitterly about companies not making clear that their US information is not universal), with the fact that the seat is CMVSS-certified.

I'm gonna hang in to hear from the horses'... um, engineers', mouths.

But Kathy, this site is the Mattel Outlet Store in Canada. Mattel owns FP and other names like Power Wheels, Barbie, etc. That's why I got excited finding it. I know it's not the same as having the 'official' word from FP or TC, but I thought maybe it would be a start, when their website selling their product says so.

Yes i find this link to be quite helpful in the choice of whether to use the seat RF to 30lbs after all it is *their* website and they clearly state their is no 'safety risk' Sometimes reps just don't know and won't look into things further for you....;)

Ooh, cool!! Yes, I do realize that Mattel imports Fisher-Price, but my point earlier was that TC was completely contradicting F-P's version of the story, and unless you can get them to agree, then the seat is still as illegal above 22 pounds rf as it ever was.

Now we have something on TC's stationery (as it were) affirming that the requirements WERE met, although it still does not make it legal to surpass the 22-pound limit. I suspect that the legality fight is a lost one; we have only gained the reassurance that the seat HAS passed the Canadian requirements to the 30-pound weight, even if the official designation was never changed.

The issue seems to grow new loose ends as fast as I try to nail them down; the Infant and Toddler Safety Association (the folks who teach our version of CPS techs) said that the Canadian tests do involve different sleds than the US ones. Oh, great, a new issue to pursue...
