I have a 2 pronged question here. DS is outgrowing his infant seat so we are in need of a new seat. We currently have an evenflo-one seat 2 bases. Hindsight being 20/20-or had I found the boards sooner it would not have been my choice even though it has worked pretty well for us. That being said-We live a good ways from BRU where we would probably purchase a new seat. Finding the time to make the 2hr RT excursion twice is unlikely. I am thinking of the RA or Marathon. We have a 2000 Ford Explorer and a 1999 Honda Accord. Anyone know about fits or have a site I can go to to check compatibility?
Almost forgot the other question-Should we get two seats-one for each car or is it fairly easy to move the seat from car to car? Barbara-mom to Jack 3/27/03 |

Well first thing i will say is it isn't as easy to move a convertible as it is an infant seat even more so if they have a base since they are just click in. ;)
However deciding upon more than 1 seat falls under how often will the seat be used?? And if not often you may find a basic no frills seat to be ok for the odd time or emergency use. My 3yo rides in a Marathon as his main seat as his 2nd seat it's an RA BUT only because it belonged to my daughter otherwise since the seat is only used rarely i would have gone for something more basic/less costly. I know RA's fit great in an older explorer, after that sorry i don't know. Many stores do allow seats to be brought out and tried. I'd buy two seats. Buy the best that you can afford, based on your usage of both seats. If you use both quite a bit, I'd suggest trying to buy the same (good) seat for both cars.
Have you checked www.carseatdata.org for compatibility for your vehicles?

WE have a RA in a 1999 Honda Accord. It fits great in the center position. DS is still RF and we have it tethered. Haven't tried outboard positions - the center just seems safer.
It isn't too hard to install, but I wouldn't want to do it all the time to switch between cars. We ended up buying one for each car. We use both cars often enough to make it worth-while. I like having the same seat in both cars and figured that when #2 arrives, I will have 2 matching seats that can be used in 1 car. (cowmooflage-love it!) By then, we hope to have traded in our 1998 Chevy Astro on a mini van and will probably only drive the kid(s) in it. Back to the Accord - I know I read that the RA works in any position, but I don't think we could use it on the sides. DH is 6'4" and moves the seat all the way back. It's ok in the center because the front seat only touches side of the RA. It would be pushing against the RA enough to change the angle of installation if it was right behind the front seat. We take turns driving enough so either side would be a problem. Definitely won't be using 2 RA in the Accord when the time comes! HTH! Check the site mentioned above for compatibility. I used it and found it helpful. |

Little Jack will love the comfort of a new seat after the infant seat Barbara....it is amazing how much room they have in comparison.
We have an RA in my car and a Marathon in DH's car. It is kind of a pain to just switch back and forth. Nothing like having two bases and just a seat to move!!!! Have fun picking fabrics....that's the hardest part. :P
