After buying a Plat Cargo late last year for my husband's car I am currently in the market for a new carseat for my 2 year old son for my car. (He has an Advantage we plan to give my 3 month old daughter in a couple of months) The Cargo is okay, and nice for travel but I think if we just got another I would miss my Britax (although I am not sure there is a good reason why!) and I would prefer a 5 point harness on him for as long as possible.
Anyway, today we tried out a marathon and the side padding came a little too close to his shoulders and upper arms. It was hard to say if it was just that one or not as he got upset after that and refused to sit back or try any more. He had tried a wizard which I know is supposed to have the same base but didn't seem as squishy. On both he had 3-4 inches from the top of his head to the top of the seat. Has anyone else noticed the marathon is too narrow? DS is about 29lbs and 36 inches and I don't consider him an unusually wide kid so I was rather surprised. Should I just get a Husky? Is there a reason not to? Hope someone has advice, Naomi DS 12/02/02 DD 10/18/04 |

YOu can get replacement foam for the Marathon that gives more shoulder room. All you have to do is call Britax.

Here's a picture, but do call, like Karen said, they should send it to you for free for a new MA http://www.britaxusa.com/shopping.cf...61F11E7&step=2

Thanks to both of you for your input.
Would the lack of side foam reduce the side impact protection is one question I have... also, would it make more sense to just get the Husky at this point? He is FF. Thanks again, Naomi |

No, it won't reduce side impact protection...only heads need foam, not shoulders (in essence) for optimal protection...the modified foam still protects the head very well.
Huskys are rather wide, that's for sure...you'd have to get a pillow for him to sleep on or his head will never touch the side! But there's nothing wrong with going for it...my ds is 7 and still fits with tons of room to grow and he loves it :) Julie CPS Tech and mom to 2 in seats http://www.cpsafety.com/articles/RFAlbum/SarahMA.aspx |

I have a 2 year old who is large (almost 50 pounds) and we use the Marathon with the old style foam and he does just fine. My only complaint is that because he is so young and heavy we still have to pick him up to put him in the seat and that can literally be a pain in the neck (and shoulder and back...:) Other than that he loves the seat and I can't complain.
