I want to buy a used Saturn LW200 Wagon as a second car. I would like to use it now with my newborn read-facing, and later with my older daughter using a booster. It would only have one child in it at any given time. My concern is that there is only a lap belt in the center, and there is also a fold down arm rest there. I don't want to put a child at an outboard position. Here are my questions:
1) Is it okay to have a RF infant infront of an arm rest? I don't see anything in the manual saying not to do it. 2) Is there a retro kit I can get to turn the lap belt into a lap/shoulder belt that could be used with a booster? Where can I get one? |

Do you have a carseat check place in your area? (here it is the fire department). I would check with them...
It sounds like you need to find out if it is safer to put the seat in the middle in front of the arm rest or on the side. Does a booster have to have a shoulder belt? (we're not at that stage yet!) Good luck! Duvie |

Thanks. Yes, a booster requires a shoulder belt. I just wouldn't buy the car if I can't use the center position.

You could install a harnessed seat there, rearfacing or forward facing, the armrest is no longer an issue (only was on old rearfacing evenflos, but there's zero injury data to show they are dangerous).
But no, there nothing you can do to make it a shoulderbelt, that's just how they come...lapbelt only, unfortunately, unless you want to find someone to add a heavy duty tether anchor to it to use a www.ezonpro.com product (much more complicated than buying a car with a center shoulderbelt... :P ), you would just have to use a booster outboard with the lap/shoulder belts (If you are shopping for newer cars, look for something with side curtain airbags in the back, they often dramatically increase the safety of a car... www.iihs.org has just come out with side impact crash test data that is very interesting) Julie CPS Tech and mom to 2 in seats http://www.cpsafety.com/articles/RFAlbum/SarahMA.aspx |
