My infant seat is a Century SmartFit. It was manufactured in 1999, and I used it in 2000 and 2002 with my daughters. Do I need a new one since it is 5 years old? It's in good shape and I like it because it goes up to 29 inches, which is a must have.
If it's too old, what should I get that goes to 29 inches and ALSO fits in my Peg Pliko. Thanks. Kristan |

The new Snugrides...and in fact ALL the new seats must go to 29 inches and 22 pounds...but I *think* the Snugride will fit in your Pliko (did you need an adapter bar for the Pliko? The P3 doesn't need one...I'd ask at the strollerboard...).
There's a post down below that is something like "Jools, what are you getting for your new baby?" and I list a lot of seats and kind of why I like them (I'm due in February!), that might help you get started. :) Julie CPS Tech and mom to 2 in seats http://www.cpsafety.com/articles/RFAlbum/SarahMA.aspx |

Actually, it is 6 years old (date of manufacture, not date of use), so technically yes, you need a new seat. But since you are in a grey area (it *just* expired), I might use it if it has not been stored in a hot place (attic, etc.) and is in good condition. I guess it also depends on when you need it - next month or next year - and whether you are on a budget.

Thanks for your responses. It was used for both daughters from October-April of their respective first years. I will need it in October again for #3.
My pliko needs an adapter bar. It seems like all my baby stuff from 2000 is older, uglier, bulkier and less cool than all the new products out on the market today. I stored the seat in a cool, dry basement when not in use, so i think the plastic hasn't warped or cracked. As for a budget, I can afford to buy a new one if needed. I'll take a look at the new snugrides, especially since we may not be finished with just three kids in which case I'd need a new seat anyway for potential baby #4. thanks again! Kristan |
