I saw these on ebay and they are so cute and look well made (with great feedback).
Anyone have any experience with something like this? http://cgi.ebay.com/Britax-Roundabou...QQcmdZViewItem I am thinking of covering a Marathon. Thanks, Jo |

Two reasons why you should not use this:
1. They are not made of flame resistant materials like the Britax covers are. 2. They are not crash-tested with Britax seats. In the event of an accident, your child becomes a crash test dummy and your Britax warranty is void. ~ deb DS born at home 12/03 Breastfed for 20 months and 6 days http://www.bfar.org/members/fora/sty...onths-bfar.jpg |

Yup...they simply don't meet the governments requirements for car seats.
There's nothing actually illegal about it, but why take chances? :) Julie CPS Tech and mom to 2 in seats http://www.cpsafety.com/articles/RFAlbum/SarahMA.aspx |

I had a question about the covers too? Is the Britax covers themselves actually flame retardant? I thought it was only the batting inside and the foam? Are you sure it is the actual material? I actually stay away from flame retardant materials becuase i read studies where that flame retardant chemical can actually seep into the skin, and with my daughter having such sensitive skin, I avoid at all costs...
Also, I was curious how much does a flame retardant material really help anyway? Say you have your baby dressed in normal clothes (which are not flame retardant) and you have a blanket next to him or her (which is usually not flame retardant either) wouldn't him/her clothes catch on fire anyway? I have always wanted to know this... Any help would be great. I was looking into getting a new car seat and would love some info... Thanks! Danielle |

I dont know the answer Danielle, but it seems like only the batting would be fire retardant to me. And, I think if the car is on fire then you have a lot of problems bigger than a car seat cover...
My kids do not have fire retardant pj's either. Thanks for all the opinions! jo |

I found the requirement for flame retardancy on another post...they basically have to take bunsen burners to all parts of the car (and car seats are included in the standard) and make sure they don't burn. At any rate, Britax covers are still made to very exacting standards that homemade covers are not (abrasion tests, apple juice and fake sweat tests, baking in UV ovens.. I've seen their testing facility), and are known to hold up really well and have good resale value, so I tend to favor them over the homemade ones (and one of the makers of the homemade ones verges on evil...she sells used and expired seats, and I'd rather support an upstanding organization than an immoral profit-taker...but that's just me...)
