Default 3rd row tether in Odyssey

Are tether anchors available for the outboard positions of an 2005 Odyssey in the 3rd row? The guy at the dealership this morning said he has never heard of that, but I though I heard they could be added. He couldn't find a part number, but then again he didn't look very hard and the guy he conferred with said "I don't know, I don't think so".

The 2005, sadly, does not have tether anchors in the outboard 3rd row. Also, unlike previous years models, you cannot add them either. In the 2006, they added them back - under the seats, I think.

Ahh, bummer. Is there any place to tether a seat in the outboard positions?

Not that I'm aware of. I know there is a rule about using the middle anchor for an outboard seat - maybe one of the techs can tell you. It was something to do with the angle being less than 20 deg off center or something.

If you are using a Britax seat, make sure to use the shoulder belt lockoff since it acts kind of like a tether (but not nearly as good). Or, you can put a rear-facing seat there and tether to the captain's chair in front of it (Britax seat only). I have found that if I install the seat in the center of the third row, I can place it toward one side and still have enough room for someone to sit next to it comfortably. It is still in the center spot, but just as close as possible to the buckle on one side.

Thanks. We have friends flying in from England Friday and my plan was to put DD1 in the rear seat so one of our guests can have the middle row captain's chair and I would sit in back with DD1 to keep her entertained. I'll have to install it that way tonight to see how much room there is for me next to her seat.

How about installing it rearfacing (I didn't ask what seat you have, but if you have a convertible, try it...)...then you could sit face to face with your dd and it'd really be fun (of course assuming she's under the RF weight limit...).

Yeah, Honda kind of dropped the ball that year when it came to top tethers, unfortunately :( (and yeah, britax shoulderbelts with the lockoffs are very much *like* a top tether, so it's definitely not a huge deal if you can't tether for a few rides).

I installed the seat in the center last night and since the latch anchors are just a bit off center due to the split seat, I have more than enough room on the driver's side of that 3rd seat to sit comfortably. I was hoping to put both my DD and my niece back there when my sis comes to visit in June to free up the captain's chair again, but we'll just do it this way again and hope the child in the 3rd seat doesn't feel like she has been exiled to Siberia! Thanks for your help!

Julie, you are always such a wealth of information!!!! So you are saying that it's safer to put that seat on the third row on one of the sides vs in the middle? Assuming of course that neither of these are TT?!
