Default Locations for two children, one RF, one FF, to maintain peace.

My daughter has a friend with a 3 1/2 yr old son (FF) and a 6 month old daughter (RF). The baby is in the center, toddler outboard. I don't know what seats. When the baby cries, the mom is never sure if it's because the toddler is bothering her or just regular crying. I told my daughter to suggest she separate them and put the baby outboard also, but she thought that was not safe or recommended. I know I have read on here, that a RF baby is extremely safe, center or outboard. But I can't find specific posts about it. Where can I find this info?

"The most protected child in the least protected spot"..because rearfacing seats are SO much safer than forward facing seats, the infant stays cradled in the seat, in, say, a side impact crash, while the toddler's head is going to fly forward, out of the protective sidewings, and is more likely to strike the door of the car than if they are in the center.
Honestly, though? I'd put which ever one fits best on whichever side is most convenient, because putting them apart will make her better able to concentrate on driving safely, and ANY seat in the rear is VERY safe.
