I would go to the hardware store and buy one of those burglar bars that they sell for home protection. I installed it myself with an electric drill in about a half an hour. It will keep DS safe from going out and from others coming in.

Where on the door is your bar installed? We have one that is about halfway up on the door (so that you can lift it to open the door) but DS is able to undo the latch, lift the bar, then unlock the door and open it. I am desperate for a way to babyproof my sliding glass door. Any ideas???

How about using a hook and eye latch for the door? If you place it at the top of the door, so your ds can't reach it, it should work to keep him from getting out without you knowing it.
Here's an example of some... http://www.kiddieproofers.com/produc...Category=Locks http://website.lineone.net/~dave.cushman/gatelatch.html |

My SIL bought something like this for her door. They applied one toward the top and one toward the bottom, near the edge of the door. If the lock is out, the door will not open, even if it is unlocked.

We took a baby gate we weren't using and locked it in the area where the door slides. Worked like a charm!
