Ok, I'm really thankful for it. I know how lucky I am and I know what miracle this is. However, every situation has it's pros and cons and I really just feel like complaining about the cons right now.
I hate being pregnant- I'm so TIRED OF BEING TIRED. And I'm already uncomfortable in my bed. And it doesn't help that I usually have 1 or 2 munchkins trying to jump on me in my bed while I"m resting. And why do they always have to leave their toys behind in my bed so that I feel like I"m rolling over thumbtacks? Oh, and yeah, right, drink a ton of water? I would LOVE to because it would help with the severe constipation I'm experiencing (even though I take stool softeners and fiber mixes) except that then I have to pee every 5 minutes!!! And that's fine at home but it's aggravating running errands with 2 kids under 4yrs who want to touch every nasty surface in the public bathroom every time you have to pee. And even though I'm only 11 weeks along, I waddle. Yep, I already got a pooch big enough to require maternity clothes and I got the waddle settling in. And did I mention the fatigue? It bears mentioning again. I have a hard time getting out of bed in the morning because of the hypoglycemia I feel every morning. oh, and the nausea. But once I start rolling, I feel pretty good. But that all comes to a firm halt around 3pm. Then I crash for the evening. My husband comes home and the house is a disaster, the kids have taken total control of the house because they know mommy doesn't have the energy to give them time-outs any more, and Oh, Honey? Could you make dinner again tonight? Ok, I'm feeling a little better. Lisa Mom to Gator July 2003 And Cha-Cha July 2005 and surprise! twins due 11/07! |

Oh honey - I hated being pregnant, and I only had one! I mean, really hated it. If UPS could deliver all my future babies, I'd be one happy mama.
HUGS!!! And don't you feel one bit bad about resting!

Man, big hugs and I bow down to you. When my friend had twins it was sooo hard on her body. Her boys shared a placenta, but one was parasiting off the other, so she had to eat like there was no tomorrow so that the second twin would get enough. Not easy when you're feeling super nauseated! And when we saw her at 4 months she already had the belly thing going (this was her first and last pregnancy). But hopefully once the first trimester is over some of the fatigue and nausea will die down.

Oh no sweetie! Huge hugs. I was huge with just one, can't imagine being huge with twins and having munchkins bouncing all over the place. I did pick up a couple of tricks through. I had a piece of fruit on my nightstand for when I woke up with hypoglycemia. I'd take a minute to eat it and feel better right away since it's a boost of sugar, but at the same time, it's fructose so good for you.
Also, make sure you have a decent amount of protein for lunch, balanced out with a complex carbohydrate. I know it's hard because all I craved was bad for me (pasta, pizza, and any other simple carb I could find), but with twins, you're going to have to plan and force yourself to eat that protein. Even if it's just one of those protein bars as a snack. It'll do a world of good for your energy. Again, huge hugs! You are a stronger woman than me, I'd be in a looney bin by now feeling the way you do. |

Thank you for the fruit-on-the-nightstand trick. I will try that tonight. I did try keeping protein bars and trail mix in my nightstand but once the munchkins discovered that and now they tear apart my nightstand every morning looking for my stash. But I think I'll try to get into the habit of bringing an orange upstairs with me at night. good idea...

Lisa, I just replied to your post in the lounge, but wasn't sure if I should mention this there. Didn't want to bust the happy mood & all.
My sister has twins (now 4 yo cuties) as her first pregnancy. The nasuea & feeling horrible were the worst part. She lost so much weight& was in the hospital probably 12 times for dehydration. They say each pregnancy gets easier & I don't know how yours were, so hopefully you won't have this issue at all. I do remember (because I took it also with my single pregnancy) that she ended up taking Zofran 3x a day. When she was really dehydrated they gave it to her in IV. Last piece of unsolicited advice. Give yourself a break! Can you get someone (relative or maybe a student) to come in for 1-2 hours in the morning to let you sleep a little later? Or maybe at dinner time so the house doesn't get all that crazy when DH walks in? Lastly, put the number for your favorite restaurant in your speed dial. At least DH won't have to make supper every night ;)

OH, Im so sorry. Hang in there and even though I know it can be stressfull just don't worry about the mess or dinner isn't ready. I say that because that is the way my house has been. My husband is cooking almost every night. Good he likes cooking. I am also 11 weeks pregnant and have 3 boys under 3. I completely understand the bathroom thing and the waddling thing already. Im not sure if Im having twins yet as my first appt isnt until this Tuesday but I feel huge and extremely tired and nausious too. It helped me to read your post that their was someone else feeling that way, hope it helps for you to know that someone else is feeling the same, so don't feel bad about it. And this too shall pass.

Lisa,
I'm so sorry that you're feeling so cr***y! I hate to say that I was nauseated my entire twin pregnancy, but the extreme tiredness did go away after the first trimester. As for the food and drink issues, the PP's idea re: fruit is a good one. I also ate a lot of dried fruit and nuts for energy, because I could handle a small amount without getting sick. I also lived on protein bars, because I couldn't handle meat. Perhaps you can find a different hiding place for snacks in your room (like in your closet)? Also, drinking things like smoothies or using Carnation instant breakfast might help, and at least if your kiddos beg sips, it's not too unhealthy. As for the C, I wound up taking magnesium supplements to help (I have long-standing issues with IBS-C) move things along. Phillips makes caplets that are very safe and don't produce side effects. Finally, can you get a mother's helper in for the afternoons to take the kidlets out to the park? I know that I'm at my lowest (chasing my rowdy twin boys and 29 weeks pregnant) point in the late afternoon. All else fails, new DVDs (we hit the library on the weekends to stock up) or some low-key new toys (sticker books, Crayola color wonders pens/paper, new matchbox cars, whatever they're into) might work until DH can take over. I've pretty much given up on cooking dinner and certainly on trying to get my boys to eat challenging foods. We're eating a lot of grilled cheese, quesadillas, pasta, or scrambled eggs for dinner with a side of fruit and milk to drink. It's balanced, it's easy, and it doesn't smell like food cooking to stir up your nausea! |
