Inspired by I think Lisa's post (Nigele) that her nephew's first words were "damn dog"...

Abby's first word was "Hi," closely followed by Dada and Mama. She now also says duck, kitty (kkkkkkkkkkee, actually, but she means kitty), uh-oh, diaper, cracker, water, and wobwobwob, which means she wants you to lean over and shake your hair in her face. She's also echoing all kinds of stuff. If we say something, half the time she'll say it back, even if it's not a word she's ready to initiate. When we were in Charlotte, her godfather was reading her a book about a tiger, and said, "That's a BIG kitty cat!" And Abby promptly said, "Baaaggg iddadat!" Hilarious. She also just babbles all the time. All of this is VERY cute. It's startling to hear actual words with actual meanings come out of this tiny little person.
But I missed the "damn dog" post. That's extremely funny. -Rachel Mom to Abigail Rose 5/18/02

Caleb's was cat, followed closely by NO OTHER WORDS! Eventually we got daddy and very recently uh-oh. Jacob's first was ball, followed closely by bye. Now he also says hi, cat, ready...whoa, no, dada, and two. He also says "seis" constantly and I have yet to figure out what that means. I seriously doubt he knows the spanish for six! I think it's a word like two or ready-there's no object to go with it so it's hard for me to figure out why he's saying it.

Arielle's first word was "up" followed by "again" (ah-dah, said ALL THE TIME:) ). Then "cheese" (cchhh), "fish" (ssshhh), and "duck" (duh). Since there have been all of these little chick paraphernalia around for Easter (she thinks chicks are ducks) we'll be in a store and she'll start saying "duh! duh! duh!" and pointing everywhere. And she won't stop repeating herself until I repeat the word.:)
Around the end of February I think, she hit this big word explosion I'd heard about, and her vocabulary skyrocketed. Now it's so fun to hear new words every day or so! Her latest is "apple" and next to "up" it really sounds perfect (except she emphasizes the wrong sylable). The other words she needs a translator for.:) But she must see me get such a kick out of her saying "aaa-PPLL" because she asks for them all the time now. -Rachel Mom to Arielle Jill, 10/30/01 #2:) EDD 10/24/03 |

Amira's first word was "bye bye," followed closely by Abba (daddy), baby, uppy (up) and wow. I am also loving this owrd explosion thing that is going on now....she understands everything and is adding (it seems like!!!) a word a day! Her latest cute ones are "I sorry" (when she drops her baby doll on the floor), sit-down (when she wants to sit on the sofa) "outside" (which she says while bringing me her jacket!) it is just so much fun! I think this is my favorite thing (so far) about watching her develop...it is just so amazing to see their brains grow!!

Well I mentioned in the other discussion that Amy's first (real) word was 'nose' (accompanied by touching the appropriate body part), but I've got a funnier one.
When Amy was 2 months old she was starting to coo and make random throat noises. My husband and I were watching Star Trek and everyone was walking around saying, "Aye, aye sir!" or some such. Well hubby asked, "Amy, would you like to be fed now?" and she smiled at him, drooled out the side of her mouth and said, "Aye!". It was the funniest thing, we laughed really hard. So I guess it depends on how you count the first word. :-) |

My son's first word was "uh oh", which was very appropriate for him. He can be a bit clumsy, so we still say "uh oh" a lot when he is around. :)
Back when he was learning to talk and walk, he skinned his knees a lot. In fact I would just put big band-aids on his knees in the morning as a preventative measure because of the "boo-boos". Somehow he got a little confused because any time he got hurt, he would come to me, holding out his finger or wherever the boo-boo was and saying "knee, knee". He eventually figured it out. ...Karen Jake age 12 Logan Elizabeth 3/25/03

That is so funny about the "knee knee"! I can see my future there! Caleb is always falling and currently calls everything "cat" so I can totally see that happening here. And I kind of hope it does since just reading about it has me laughing!

Matt's first word was "Yummmmmmmmm" which he started about 7 months. It's just been recent that we've had any more sort of babbling. Now he's finally saying "dada" and "mama".

Jacob's first work was "pretty", not mama, dada, or anything easy. I guess I must have said pretty a lot...
