Default Melasma Question

Help! I got a pretty good case of PG MASK (melasma) that I am sick of looking at and trying to get rid of! Between the time that I stopped BF and when we started TTC#2 I used a perscription, which helped some, but I am still not happy with the results. Anyone use a natural or organic remedy? Something I can use now, while TTC, and during next pregnancy?

Thanks!

Default RE: Melasma Question

Hey Heather-

I have some spots too. I tried one Rx and it didn't work and I'm onto my second.

It's better, but the dermotologist said as soon as I stop using it (and you can safely only do six months of it), the spots will come back.

What a PITA!

I will be watching this thread to see if there are any good suggestions.

Default RE: Melasma Question

I got melasma from bc pills. I went to the dermatoligist and she advised on a treatment of retin-a and hydroquinone - not exactly organic, but it definitely helped. My marks at least lightened. I do have to say that mine were prettty bad. I had a big spot on my forhead and my cheeks were splotchy (but, at least they were symmetrical and looked somewhat like heavy freckles) and the melasma mustache. It was so bad, I did not want to be without makeup in front of people. To truly get rid of the marks, you might have to go the chemical peel route. I think microdermabrasion may work. I have never done either of these, but the derm. suggested chemical peels. I know some places like Sally Beauty supply have at home microdermabrasion, so I may try that. It is $40.

Currently, I am not doing anything because I am bf'ing. I think AHA's might be okay while bf'ing, though. With a 4 mo. old, I am less concerned about my looks - really, only due to lack of time, not interest! I would really like to have a smoother complexion!
