Default OT-Beautifying A Lampshade

I found an old stained lampshade in my pantry. I don't want to toss it. Instead, I'd like to do something to it to make it look better. But what? It goes with a cream colored lamp-the shade is also cream colored. Help!

You can paint it with fabric paint and then glue on nice braiding in a contrasting or coordinating colour.

Do a search on Martha Stewart's site. I remember reading about fixing lampshades not too long ago.

Good luck

you can glue ribbon in stripes to cover the whole thing. this idea was in martha stewart magazine a while back. good way to cover the stain!

Did it recommend a certain kind of ribbon and glue?

You could do something crazy but cute like hot gluing silk flowers to the whole thing. Sounds tacky but I saw one IRL and it was so cool. They just used the flower part (not the stems) and they were all red flowers and glued them super close together so there was no shade showing.

You could also just hot glue a cool trim like maribou or feather trim to the bottom and just keep the cream shade! That would surely jazz it up.

Have fun with it.

I made a lampshade-type nightlight for DD by covering the shade with fabric. It's really easy and you can find directions on the internet if you search things like "fabric-covered" lampshade or similar wording. I just put adhesive all over the lampshade and smoothed on fabric. I then trimmed the edges after it was stuck on there and folded it over the edges. If you want to get fancy, you can use trim on around the rim on the top and bottom. Just hot-glue it on and voila!

I did a quick search - This may be what the other poster was referring to:

Looks very cute and easy - but Martha is always very deceptive with the ease of her crafts, LOL.
