So tomorrow is Caleb's big day. He's getting ear tubes put in. I know there's not much to the procedure, other than the general anesthesia. But I do worry about the anesthesia because I've had some serious problems with it myself. They aren't using the same drugs I had and apparently my problem is literally unheard of so hopefully things will go well for Caleb. The surgery is at 8:40 AM and they say we should be able to leave within an hour. Just didn't want to leave him out of the updates!

Nicole - I know you will be worried but I can assure you that it will be over and they will be coming to take you back literally before you have time to look at a magazine or have a cup of coffee. I would say the longest one of our children was away from us for the procedure (we've had it done 6 times total) was 20 minutes and usually it's more around 15. One thing I might suggest if they don't initiate is to see if he can have the liquid sedative before he is taken back - the kids are much more calm and relaxed and it makes the transition away from you so much easier.
Good luck and I'll be thinking of you - hope it goes well. |

Just wanted to let you know I will also be thinking of you tomorrow! We have been through this with our DD when she was 11 months old, and she came through it just fine. Although I don't wish any surgery on a child, I think it's just as hard for the parent to sit through as for the child to go through it. We had much the same experience...they were coming to get us before I knew what had happened, and we were able to hold and comfort DD. I think once they took DD back for surgery, we weren't at the hospital more than an hour total. Good luck to Caleb and I'm thinking of Jacob too! Hang in there!

hope all went well with his procedure!
i had it done twice as a kid (at 5 and 7) and i just remember being startled by all the usual noises around my house - cause i could finally hear them! don't be surprised if the phone or doorbell give caleb a jolt for the first few days. ;)amy Proud momma to Aidan - 7/29/03 |

Nicole,
Best of luck to little Caleb. I *know* it's hard to see your child going under any type of surgery and anesthesia especially after the experience you have been through. I'll be thinking of you guys - be sure to give us an update as soon as you can! Hugs and kisses to Caleb. Be sure to spoil him rotten after his surgery! ;-) |
