Default Not sure where to post this--would you use a shopping cart cover?

One of my mom's good friends sent us one of those shopping cart covers as a gift. This thing is HUGE (not to mention in a LOUD pattern)...I'm not sure if I can bring myself to use it. Does it scream neurotic parent, germophobe, etc??? Or is it a smart idea? I admit, one time I saw a woman in the grocery store w/her daughter in one, and I was sorta thinking along the neurotic lines...but I'm wondering if it's a good idea after all. What do you all think? Anybody have one and love it? I'm just not sure...

Count me in as one of the neurotic ones! :)

Anyway, there are a bunch of us that have them. Read the posts in the Diaper Bag board here. Some of the favorites are www.covers4kids.com, www.snazzybaby.com, www.buggybagg.com, floppy seat, etc. I am sure I am forgetting some. They range from $35-70.

I have (had) the Snazzy and BuggyBagg and love them both. I think they are great and don't scream neurotic to me. I like that they have a separate strap to hold baby in since it seems as if so many carts don't have working straps. And yes, I hate to think of all the germs on the cart. Since babies put their hands in their mouths so much and touch everything, I don't like thinking that those germs go straight to their mouth. **I do not think it's bad NOT to use a cover. I just like the extra comfort and cleanliness.

Hope this helps.

**ETA- I just re-read your post and realize that you already have the cover.

I have one and love it for restaurants, and use it sometimes in shopping carts, like when Colin will be in one for a while (weekly grocery runs). It isn't a necessity at this age, IMO, but is sometimes nice to have. If it is a BuggyBagg, you might want to sell it and pocket the money instead!! Those puppies are expensive!

I have the Buggy Bagg and LOVE LOVE LOVE it.

Even Jonathan muttered this past weekend that it was one our best buys.

I use it constantly and cringed the few times we were without it. Those highchairs just skeeve me OUT.

I love our shopping cart cover (a Floppy Seat, which may be yours--mine also is huge and in a loud pattern!). I am neurotic about germs so I definitely am glad that DS isn't touching the cart or putting his mouth on the bar, but it also has other advantages. First, when it's cold outside, the shopping carts oftentimes are very cold so the cover makes the seat nice and warm for DS and the handlebar nice and warm for me too.

Second, mine has padding so the ride is more comfortable for DS. Today, he started falling asleep near the end of our shopping trip, and he just leaned against the side of the cart a little (while being strapped in with the extra safety belt) and fell asleep against the padding.

Third, mine has two large pockets which are great for holding his and my hat and gloves.

Fourth, I'm able to link a toy to the cover, which he enjoys playing with during the shopping trip.

Is the seat cover a necessity? Of course not. Am I very glad that I have one? Yes. I also get many comments from others while shopping about how cute DS is in his seat and how it's such a good idea. Like was mentioned, you can get some covers from other places that are not loud patterns and may be more to your liking, if the pattern is the problem. As far as the cover being big, mine folds up into its own bag so it makes it more compact that way.

I don't have one. Every now and then I think, "This is where one of those covers would come in handy," but it hasn't got to the point where I'm going to order one (but then she IS almost 2. I might consider it for future baby #2, but only if it's in a subtle color (all the ones I've seen have been LOUD too).

We just got ours and used it for the first time at a restaurant the other night. We are still in the infant seat, so we haven't graduated to the shopping cart seat yet. DD loves to suck on straps though and would even reach down and probably suck on the handle of the shopping cart. For me, that is a valid reason to get a cover! Who knows what cooties are on that handle and in the mouth? Yuck!!

I have never used one. If I had a child with a compromised immune system, then maybe. But for my mostly healthy child, no! LOL

I love my cover and I don't feel I am a complete germophobe but I just feel better that Diego is not putting his mouth on the handles of a cart or highchair. Plus he is more comfy using the cart cover. We use our cover at a minimum 3 x's a week. Ours is from covers4kids. It is black gingham and not loud at all. hth
