Hello Everyone!
I was just wondering how many of you pumped while driving. I spend a great deal of time on the road for my job, so the lighter powersource for my PIS has become my new best friend. Anyone else? |

I pumped while driving a few times, but not as a regular practice. I did one side at a time, so if I had to make an emergency grab, I would only need one hand.
Pro: it's just as safe as talking on the phone, trying to break up a fight in the back seat, eating or drinking while you drive Con: it's just as dangerous as talking on the phone, trying to break up a fight in the back seat, eating or drinking while you drive IMHO, I would do it if there was *absolutely* no other time to pump, but I wouldn't make it part of my regular routine. |

Get the handsfree attachment kit, or use the Bravado brastrap to hold it in place, and then it won't be unsafe.
I'd like to pump on the way to/from work, but I take the train LOL ...Karen Jacob Nathaniel Feb 91 Logan Elizabeth Mar 03 |

I confess that I've done it, and particularly like that the car set up is faster than an electrical outlet, but handsfree is key. If I'm really full, I'll pump in the car while it's stationary - otherwise I will decorate the steering wheel with telltale droplets.

LOL! I've done it once, when I was late for a conference in DC due to bad weather. Pumping on the expressway right outside town and rinsing my pump parts with bottled water out the window at a stoplight in the city! That must of made for an interesting image. I tucked them into my bravado bra so I had two hands on the wheel just about the whole time.
My biggest worry was spilling (was in DH's Explorer and he would have freaked!) shannon not-even-pregnant-yet-overachiever trying-to-conceive :) PREGNANT! EDD 6/9/03 mama to Jack 6/6/03 |

I am just amazed that people do this. I had a hard enough time keeping it all together while sitting in the pump room at work. And that was with me having a chair, table, sink etc... And is it really worth the trouble for a 10 minute or so pump (that's all it look for my ladies to empty out). I couldn't imagine doing this in a car much less while driving a car. Can you just imagine the mess it would make if there was an accident. Not to mention cause an accident. It freaks me out to see people reading the newspaper or putting on make-up while driving as it makes them less aware of what's going on on the road. It takes one split second for something to happen. And I'm a big advocate for using ear pieces for cell phones. Why chance it.

I have always wanted to know how one pumped in the car. How do you keep everything covered? I am really uncoordinated and don't have to drive far or often, but for those few marathon trips, I would really like to know how to do this without have a Janet Jacksonesque type moment. (Also, this assumes DH is driving. I really can't multi-task in the car. Listening to NPR is even dangerous!)

I never have, but with my hands free attachment, I could have easily done it without a problem. I would have had to stop to hook myself up though. It got to the point I didn't even notice I was doing it. I would just work at my desk. When I heard the sound of the suction change and I knew the girls and I were done. IMHO it's lots safer than most things people do in cars.

Yep-- every day. It's part of my commute home. I get everything set up before I leave the parking garage and then hold them with one hand. Honestly, I rarely drive at the 10 and 2 positions anyway, so there is very little difference in my driving. (Hopefully that doesn't scare anyone:) I've only received a ticket when I was 16!). It makes me less resentful of my 45 minute commute and relaxes me during the gridlock.
I do sometimes wonder if the truckers can see anything, though... :) |

I used to date a truck driver in my younger days, and yes, yes they can see everything.
You'd be shocked at what they see. :) ...Karen Jacob Nathaniel Feb 91 Logan Elizabeth Mar 03 |
