I pulled up our driveway which is very steep...came upstairs to start organizing by new book cases in T's play room and I hear Steve hammering away (on a honey do project)...all of a sudden I hear "OH SH*&......NEVE!!!!!!!....." I thought maybe he hurt himself and picked up Tristan to run downstairs and my car has gone down the driveway into a huge natural area ditch that is between me and an open firled (playground) across the street. We had everything going against us *huge steep driveway, huge ditch, heavily wooded, Steve said "how are we going to get it out???" I knew we would be lucky if a tow truck could do it, the car is my blessed old Honda not worth anything and only covered liability wise. I was crying, hysterical, Steve ran down to it got in and I kid you not drove it out of that ditch and brought it up to the driveway and there is not a scratch on it!!!!!!!
I always joke that car has been everywhere with me (I've had it since I graduated from college and I am 37) It has 300,000 miles on it and I love it so... Someone was watching over my little "whisper jet"... Thank god no car was coming, or children out etc... Wow, and amazing story. My stepmom had a similar thing happen in my Dad's old truck. She parked his old truck in a woodsy area so her and her friend could go walking and the truck went over the side of a cliff!
Thank goodness everyone is safe, but you had me laughing!!! ~Heidi Mom to Kailey Ashlin 4/27/03 |

Gosh, I'm glad your Honda is okay! I say that as one who knows the feeling of Honda love--I got a new 1991 Accord for my senior year in college, and I'm 35 now and still love that car beyond all reason. I wrecked in about 1995 by sliding out on ice early one morning and into a truck, thank goodness no one was hurt, and $2000 of insurance money later my beloved car was back in perfect shape. I am the only one who has ever driven it as DH does not know how to drive a stick, and when I shift those gears I feel like a cool, carefree 22-year-old kid again, which is a pretty amazing feeling for me when in reality I am a bordering-on-frumpy 35-year-old mommy wearing a stained tee-shirt!

Wow scary! Glad no one was hurt, including your Honda! My little Subaru, also from right after college, started to back away from me once...it was my fault, it was 5:30 am and I had scraped the windshield but is was still icy, so I got out (while the car was running) to scape some more but the car was in neutral and no parking brake on. It started to roll backwards, away from me towards a fence across the parking lot. Somehow I managed to get around the open door and reach in an pull the emergency brake while the car was moving.
The car did meet its on the interstate highway only 5 miles from my house in Oct. 2000. A huge truck tire came rolling at me while I was doing 70 miles per hour. It hit the drivers side front corner and bounced off. Luckily I maintained control and was able to pull off and stop. The car had to be towed and was declared totaled. I got to say goodbye to it a couple of days later before it got sent to car heap heaven...sniff. Jennifer mom to Jacob 9/27/02 |

Oh my gosh Neve - that is a scary and hilarious story, all at once. That is the car that wouldn't die. Are you sure Steve didn't run out and release the brake? ;) I bet you gave him a hero's welcome after he drove out of the ditch with it, though!

So glad everyone (and the car) is ok! My car was totalled last month, so I know how traumatic it could have been.
Yay Honda!

OMG Neve! I know how you love that car and how happy you must be that it is still in one piece. Thank goodness no one was hurt!

This happened to me in high school, when I was parked at a friend's house. Her driveway was very steep, and when I went out to my car it wasn't there - because it was across the street in the front yard *of a state trooper*!
