Default our experience with Philips Baby Monitors

We read the Baby Bargains book and I really wanted to try the Intercom Philips Monitor but had a really hard time finding it locally. The Philips website kept listing Sears as a place locally to buy but this was incorrect and numerous attempts to call Philips didn't work. Finally, my mother found a little box on their website where we could buy it online directly from the Philips website and she bought it for us.

Coincidentally at the same time we told Alan and Denise about our problems getting the monitor and they asked us to test the Philips Ultra compact monitor for future editions of the book.

So, we can tell you about both models

Good things-
1. they work together so we had 2 receivers and could hear from the same one base in the baby room. The intercom function was ok, but since we had reception problems, this wasn't too great.
2. rechargeable is great. also, based on the way they plug in with an AC adaptor, this made recharging really easy.

Bad things-
1. reception was equally bad with both monitors. It could just be our house, but neither one seemed to work well for us.
2. Ultra compact receiver clip is terrible and falls off belt/waist band too easily. Not like a pager clip that grips and stays onto waistbands. Can't tell you how many times the receiver fell off our waistbands for both me and my husband.

SO, now... we returned the intercom monitor to Philips. Their customer service in handling the return was ok. Not fantastic but I did get my money back and they paid for the shipping return.

As for the other monitor, we only use it if we are going into the yard where reception is a little better, like I said, it could be my 50 year old all brick house...

Also, I've since learned that Buy BUy Baby sells Philips monitors in their stores! hope that this is helpful to you!

Default RE: our experience with Philips Baby Monitors

We have the Philips Monitor and love it. Can't say that I was ever able to get the intercom portion of it working either, but that was never our priority. ;)

I have found that with any monitor, the more densely populated our living environment (condo versus house), the more interference we had. It's been exponentially better since we moved to our house and out of the city.

We bought the Sony Baby Call at Target (for half the price of the Philips) and love it even more.
