We have norton anit-virus, but I have been getting a lot of popups warning me that "My computer may be infected w/ spyware" ...I close them w/out "scanning" but it got me thinking that maybe I should look for a legit scanner to see if maybe I DO have spyware on my computer...any suggestions?

Clark Howard (a local consumer reporter) has a few recommended on his website at www.clarkhoward.com Based on his recommendations, my DH downloaded the Ada-ware from www.lavasoftusa.com and it seems to work well.

Norton doesnt pick up the spyware. You can get Adaware, Spybot, and Hijack this for free. There are also several online virus scanners that actually pick up some adware (try RAV, Pestscan etc). Also, check in Control Panel>add/remove for suspicious programs. Last, the google toolbar works great in blocking popups.
You can also get ZoneAlarm that helps you see if you have suspicious programs "spying" on you. I bought mine, but I think you can get a free version. The only reason I know about this is b/c I had a spyware takeover a few weeks ago when I accidently downloaded something when going to what I thought was reputable site about nursery pictures. I got my info here http://www.geocities.com/maxpro4u/madmax.html, and also from another thread recently on the lounge....search for "adware" I think. Mommy to baby girl 5.8.04 |
