My husband's company is having a baked goods silent auction to raise money for Light the Night (the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's upcoming fundraiser). I have to bring 3 items for auction and I need CREATIVE ideas!!! I know presentation is really important, planning on hitting the dollar store to see what cute things they have that I could use for packaging. Some of my thoughts are Coffee Time cookies (cookies and gourmet coffee), Breakroom Brownies, Midday Munchies (caramel popcorn, candy, etc). Let me know what things would tempt you to bid!!

I'm not sure when your silent auction is, but this Pretzel Wreath is great for the holidays (although I think you could serve it at other times too). It's not really baked (at least by you), but it has incredible presentation and tastes great! I frequently bring it/serve it at holiday parties and it's always a hit.
Pretzel Wreath 1 (24 oz.) pkg. vanilla-flavored candy coating 1 bag pretzels (such as Rold Gold Classic Thins) 1 (6.75 oz.) pkg. Star Brite peppermints, crushed 7 additional peppermint candies (optional) 5 small bows (optional) Melt candy coating according to package directions. I use the microwave. Dip pretzels into candy coating, covering completely. Place coated pretzels on wax paper; sprinkle heavily with crushed peppermint. Let candy coating harden. Place a single layer of pretzels around outside edge of 12" serving tray or plate. Pretzels should overlap slightly. Continue layering remaining pretzels until wreath is 3" high (or until you are out of pretzels). Spoon seven small dots of remaining melted candy around top of wreath; press whole peppermints gently onto wreath, allowing dots of melted candy to act as glue. Let stand until firm. Decorate with bows at edge of plate or tray, if desired. Note: I generally don't use the whole peppermints because when actually eating the pretzels, people don't know what to do with the whole peppermints (Do I eat it, suck on it, take it off and put it on the plate?). I've tried various ways to crush the peppermints and have had the best luck with an old mini chopper/food processor. It does scratch the bowl, though. I have a couple of other recipes I'll try to add later.

I wish I had a sure-fire idea for you, but I am drawing a major blank at the moment. I'll dig through my cookbooks later tonight. However, there is a cooking forum over at BHG.com and the cooks there are the most helpful people I have ever met.
Go to the "Cook to Cook" board and ask there for suggestions http://dgroups.bhg.com/n/pfx/forum.a...tag=cooktocook One of the ladies there is THE queen of cheesecake recipes... several other specialize in regional recipes. I know that if you ask over there, you will come up with some sure-fire winners! --Donna |
