I have a slightly raised, red rash on my stomach. It appeared on day 4 after my c/s. Any ideas? I'm not taking any new meds or doing anything out of the norm. I just don't know what is causing it. Please help!

Sounds exactly like what I had after having Lil'bit! Per my dr its nothing to worry about, just a reaction to delivery, one of the drugs given in the hospital, or just plain hormones. His advice was to take cool showers as the heat will draw it out and not really to worry about and I think to keep the area covered. Try putting powder or lotion on it to see if either helps (I dont remember which it was right now). He did mention while nursing (if you are) to make sure to cover the area so its not touching baby just in case it happens to be contagious (which he did not think it was just wanted to be safe though). As long as it doesnt bother you and doesnt seem to get worse I wouldnt be too concerned. Delivery is a HUGE stress to ones system and a rash is just a way of trying to get everything back to normal. If it doesnt get better or spreads in a few days I would see a dr, but all in all sounds completely like what I had and not of concern.

It could be anything from a tape allergy to a med allergy. You should take benedryl... that would probably help reduce it. And Congrats on your baby!!!!!

Is it itchy? Could be PUPPP [pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy]http://www.ivillage.co.uk/pregnancyandbaby/pregnancy/tri3/qas/0,,15_158400,00.html
http://www.emedicine.com/derm/topic351.htm Why not get it checked out? I'm not sure if the itch is histamine-mediated, so Benadryl may not help, and there is some risk of it drying out your milk supply. |

It sounds exactly like PUPPP!! Thank you for letting me know that I am not insane. I go to the Dr today for him to evaluate it as it is now over my c/s incision. Thanks!

It sounds like PUPPPs - I had this after DS was born and wanted to cut my legs off, the itching was so terrible. I had to take steroids for two weeks, but after the first three days, it made things much more tolerable. I used a ton of Benadryl and Caladryl gel, which more or less just cooled things off rather than stopped the itching, and Aveeno oatmeal baths, cool water. Hot water makes the itching worse. I certainly hope you find some relief - it was not fun!
