Default Good Night Gorilla - am I the only one?

I've always thought Good Night Gorilla is a cute children's book. I had bought it for a lot of baby gifts before Abby was born, and it was one of the early books I bought after she was born. We've enjoyed reading it - but enjoy it MUCH more once a friend told me the two "tricks" - there's a banana on every page (relatively easy to find) and a balloon, or sometimes just its string, on every page too. Abby loves looking for both of them now!

Thought I'd share, in case others hadn't figured this out - may make the 1000th reading a little more enjoyable for you...and DC .

I also like how when the animals are going to the zookeepers house, there is one person watching out of one of the neighbor's windows. Then the next time you see that view there are 2 people at the window. And then finally, 3 people. I thought it was cute how they added that detail.

Yes, I have to keep myself entertained during these books too!

That book is a favorite at our house. My mom thought it was so funny that Jonah could say "armadillo"! LOL She asked, "Where did he learn that?"

He loves the page with just the eyes...he always says, "He-wo!"

Last time we were at border's I found a larger version of the book...it is still a board book, but it is more like the size of a magazine...so the pages are really huge. I just had to get it, and anyway, our small board book is getting pretty ragged. DS is in love with the bigger book, and even my DH was excited when I brought it home. Oh, the little things that make us happy! ;)

When Jonah was much younger he would always find the banana on the pages, that was one of his first words. I don't know if we have noticed the balloon, have to check that out.

I have to say that is one book I don't ever mind at bedtime...I guess because I can make it up as I go! :)

DS actually figured out the banana and balloon thing, LOL! He just started looking for them and DH and I realized they're on each page. The moon is on most if not all pages too (he likes to look for it as well). We're now using it to reinforce color and numbers (which color key the gorilla is using and how many animals are out). Very versatile book :)

Kaya loved that book when she was younger (and couldn't really understand anything). She would actually let me take her through the entire book. I haven't tried it lately, so maybe it's time to pick it up again. And yes, I did notice that there's a banana and balloon in every page. It's really pretty cool. :) Hmm...now that Kaya knows what a banana and balloon are, maybe I can start the game with her soon...as soon as she sits still long enough for a story, LOL!

We love that book too - infact, we JUST read it right before I checked this board - and I asked Addie where the gorilla was and she pointed to it! A first for her. There's alot of little hidden gems in that book. For example, I also think that each of the keys is color-coded to each of the cages. Not as cool as the other things you mentioned but just another nice detail in the book.

I love this book! We do the same thing, looking for the banana and balloon. And the page with just the eyes -- Jack's always "read" the book and open his eyes really big for that part.

There's a mouse on every page in Goodnight Moon, too.

I must really zone out while I read to her - hadn't noticed the people in the window OR the different colored keys. We'll talk about those next - thanks!

You may know this already but there is a really neat Good Night Gorilla DVD with a few other "bedtime stories". It's very mellow. We checked it out from the library!
