Colwyn never did this, so I'm not sure if it's normal or not. Sometimes when Lachlann spits up, it comes out his nose, too. Does this happen to your babies, or is it something I should call the doctor about? It doesn't really distress him, but I'm sure it can't be comfortable.
Also - Colwyn had mild colic that started a week or two after he was born, and started to go away around 6 weeks. Just this weekend, Lachlann has started having inconsolable periods in the evening. He never really had fussy periods before. He's 6 weeks old.. does that count as colic, or something I should be worried about? Thanks!

It used to happen to Mia all the time. It was usually when she went a little crazy and drank too much milk. The Ped said it wasn't a big deal at all and that when her esophageal sphincter got stronger, it would stop. Sure enough, it hasn't happened in quite a while.
I readily admit that it used to totally freak me out, though! As far as the colic goes, you can't necessarily say that Lachlann will be the same as Colwyn. Six weeks is pretty standard for them to start making more of a fuss, as their digestive systems really start going. Gripe Water is my absolute best friend. I can't recommend it enough. -m

That can be a sign of reflux. Keep an eye on it. The problem with reflux is that it causes esophogeal damage over time, and then that is a really painful condition for the baby. It takes a long while to heal, too. If he's showing other signs and symptoms of reflux, it's worth talking to your ped to see if treatment is in order so that his esophogus doesn't get damaged.

Charlie was a gigantic spitter-upper, and lots came out his nose. And, if we didn't flush it out his nose would get really stinky - yuck! He didn't have any other reflux symptoms, though. I would probably check with your ped since you've got some inconsolable crying, and see what he says. Or maybe try keeping him upright after feedings and some of the other things that help reflux babe and see if that helps??

Spit-up coming out of his nose is nothing to be worried about, in and of itself. And colic usually (but not always) starts around 3-4 weeks, peaks around 10-12 weeks and gradually disappears after that, so his fussing can certainly be colic. (FWIW, nearly all babies have increased fussiness in that same time frame, also usually in the evenings--it's hardwired into their brains--but babies with colic cry for longer, at least 3 hrs per day with no know cause.)
That said, spit-up in combination with fussiness can be reflux disease, so if you're worried, talk to your doctor. |

This happened w/ Nate all the time. It happened once or twice w/ Rose, but not nearly as often. The ped said that it was normal -- something about too much volume for too little space or something. But Nate also had reflux, which often doesn't appear until 4-6 weeks, so you may want to ask your ped about that and the fussiness.
