Default Anyone been to Lancaster Host Resort in PA?

I want to book a hotel this week for Day out w/ Thomas @ Strasburg RailRoad in PA. The best deal i've come across is for Lancaster Host.

Does anyone have experience staying there? We don't require a fancy hotel, just something that's not smack on an interstate! It looks really nice online.

I don't have any actually experience staying near Strasburg. We went to the Day Out With Thomas in CT last year. However, this place has always intrigued me:

I hope they have later dates in Strasburg this summer//fall. I just don't think I can handle taking a 3.5 year old and a 1 month old!

Here's the 2006 dates for Strasburg:

June 17-25, Sept 16-24, Dec 1,2,3, 2006

I checked out the Red Caboose but it's literally on a freight line. I would like a little sleep :-)

I'd highly suggest booking a hotel for Sept or Dec now for a super cheap rate. I just booked Lancaster Host for june for $59 and $79 (AAA Rates). I figure we can always cancel if our plans change.

Oooh. I didn't see the later dates. Thanks! I'll definitely book for September. I'm all researched out, so I' think I'll just "copy" you and book the Lancaster Host! (Red Caboose is also being remodeled, so I'd rather wait until it's done before trying it.)

We just went to a day with Thomas in December. I think we will do it again because it was sooo cold that my older DS did not want to get out of the stroller to enjoy then other activities. The station is on top of a hill and the wind was fierce.

Thomas goes right by the Red Caboose. My DH really thought it looked neat but I dont think I would like to stay there.

I'm not familiar with the Host Resort so I can't comment. Though the Inn recommended on the Strasburg site looked very nice but I think it's more expensive.

I also think next time I will purchase the combo ticket that gives you a longer ride on one of the other trains too. The Thomas ride is about 20 minutes.

Have a great time!

How old do you think DS would need to be to enjoy Day out w/Thomas? They are going to be near us in May, and he'll be about 19 months old then. He is currently mildly obsessed with 2 trains he got for Christmas.

Thanks for posting about this Laura!

I just saw this post as i was searching for another one of my recent posts. We haven't to DOWT yet ~ this will be our first time and DS will be 39 months. I think at 19 months, for us, it would've been more of a looking around type thing vs. actually taking part and playing. From what i understand there's a huge train table or display, etc.

Can't answer on the Host Resort, but I will check it out the next time I am in the area (45 min away.)

FYI other things close by to there....
Outlets!- including Pottery Barn
Dutch Wonderland- smaller amusement park that I am told is good for 7 and under. A daycare Mom highly recommends it! They had something around Christmas and with the warm weather they had a blast!

Just the railroad and Toy Train museum is a fun time. We did not do the Thomas thing, but a good time was had by all. There is a Thomas store, but we had tired kids so we never made it there.

We were there, too! It was terribly cold. There were people in snowsuits. :o We did the combo ticket and the steam train was just as big a hit as the Thomas one.
We stayed at the Country Inn & Suites in Lancaster and it was perfect for us.
