I'm now 6 months pregnant, and suddenly in the last few days, I've become incredible uncomfortable, much more so than when I was pregnant with DS #1. It aches to walk, get up from a chair, etc. And running after a toddler is wearing me out! :-) I definitely have gotten bigger in the past few days, so the extra weight could be causing the discomfort, but I'm still right on target weight-wise, so it's not a problem I could fix. A hot shower tonight after DS went to bed helped for a while, but now I just went to wash the dishes and wanted to crawl back onto the couch . . . I do go to prenatal yoga, so I am stretching, but not overdoing it either.
PS I'm NOT worried, nor do I think there is a problem with the pregnancy. The baby is active and kicking, and I feel great otherwise. I do have a midwife appt next week though, so I'll mention it. I just want some suggestions for relieving this. TIA! Erin Mom to Chase Feb. 04 ... and another little guy coming in June :-) |

There's no way to know for sure but it could be something like sacroiliac pain. When you are pregnant your ligaments are much more lax and so it is easier for things to get out of alignment.
You could try doing some gentle pelvic tilts. If you aren't sure how to do this, your midwife may be able to show you. I'd hesitate to recommend more than that since I can't do an eval, kwim?

I'm seeing a physical therapist (OB sent me) for back/hip/leg pain for this pregnancy. Not sure if it's the same problem, but it's working for me - at least makes things more tolerable.

Pregnancy yoga helped me a lot. I had a couple dvds I used. Sounds like you are already using yoga. Nothing to add. Nupe

Chiropractic! I did find the second pregnancy to be vastly more uncomfortable than the first, but chiropractic was very helpful.

Im pregnant w/ my first DS. But I have also experienced pretty bad hip pain occasionaly, especially when I am trying to sleep on my side. A pillow between my legs has really helped. I also had pelvic pain in the beginning (chasing toddlers and constantly lifting them in daycare)all that helped w/ that was rest and not lifting so much(I got a new job). However I know this is not so easy for you having a toddler of your own. So about the pelvic pain I really have no advice except rest as much as you can.....

Try sitting on a birth ball! The pelvic tilt exercises helped me too. Hang in there!

Run, don't walk to a physical therapist that specializes in pregnant women. Your midwife should be able to recommend one. If it is hurting now, it will only get worse as time goes on. With my first, I waited way too long, until I literally could only lie in a recliner and crawl to the bathroom. PT made a huge difference. With the second, I did all the exercises at the first hint of pain and it never got bad.

Thanks for the suggestions so far! I do feel better this morning after resting all night, and I did use a pillow between my legs for the first time last night. But 4 hours after waking up, I'm starting to feel a lot of pain again. Sigh.
I didn't even think to pull out the birth ball, but I will do that this afternoon (if I can find it in our basement!) And I appreciate the suggestions for a physical therapist/chiropractor - I'll ask my midwife for a recommendation on Tuesday. Erin Mom to Chase Feb. 04 ... and another little guy coming in June :-) |
