Default Experience with international DVDs?

My mom really wants some Italian DVDs that are PAL 2. I know that they won't work on US DVD players, but does anyone know if they will work on a computer?

TIA!

I think they might, but don't quote me on that.
We're in the same situation as family in Australia and UK send DS DVDs. You can buy machines that have been adapted to play all regions. I think you can only get them online, and it might void the machine's warranty etc as the modification isn't done by the manufacturer. We bought a very cheap model so if it did stop working it wouldn't be such a big deal. Now DS can watch the shows I watched as a kid, and that's important to me.

A couple years ago when I was messing with the DVD player on my computer, I noticed there was a region setting. You could change it, but only a few times (three or four??). It said it would become completely, permanently unchangable after you exceeded the limit.

Obviously, "a couple years" is AGES in computer-time, but check around on your computer and see. I guess (if it still is that way) you could change it and it would be your dedicated PAL 2 player and you'd have your regular machine for US DVD's.

Either I've been reading BBB too long or I have a great memory for posts... or both.

Here's a thread asking the same question.

I've been told they would work on a computer, but haven't tried, myself.

There's also universal DVD players out there.
