Default Reassurance Please!

On two things:

First, DD's teeth are showing up in a very odd pattern. Two on top, three on bottom and now molars! I asked the nurse practitioner about it the last time we were at the ped's office and she wasn't concerned. It's just that now she has a two year molar coming in (I think - she won't really let me look), but her front teeth aren't even in yet. Anyone else have these weird patterns with their DCs?

Second, DD only eats mostly carbs/starches and dairy. When we first started table foods, she ate a larger variety of healthy food (I was quite proud). I know they can get pickier at this age, but all she seems to want is rice, pasta, corn, crackers and bread. She won't eat meat or beans, so protein is a concern. She will eat frozen green peas, broccoli on occasion and some fruit. I have tried all kinds of things and she just won't eat them. Should I be concerned or just go with the flow and give her vitamins? I ate everything when I was her age and so did DH, so I don't know where she gets this pickiness!

Thanks,

My DD's teeth have been coming in in a very odd pattern as well. Her bottom two teeth came in, then all 4 of her 12 month molars. Once she got those in, her canines came in on top and one of her top front teeth. She does not have the other front tooth. The ped dentist asked if we had any family history of missing teeth, to which we did not. She just said that at this point we should just wait it out and see what happens.

My DD is 18 months and just does everything on her own time. She did not roll over until after 6 months, sit up until 11 months, and currently is not walking yet. The ped does not seem concerned at this point and just says that if she is not walking by 2 yo we should have her looked at. My DS did not walk until he was 18 months and now at 3.5 yo he is running 5k events. I guess my DC's are just on their own time schedule!

My DD has become very picky lately, but she is still very healthy and the doc has no worries.

Good luck. It is frustrating when these little ones throw us for a curve!

I swear my DS could live on pasta and bread. In fact, he will reach into the bag of frozen bread when I am making him a PBJ and eat a slice. Yuck! Just keep trying new things. Some weeks I can get him to eat turkey or meatballs, some not. I thought I heard somewhere that they get the same nutrients from fruits as they do veggies? But maybe I am making that up. Maybe you can try some fruits that are high in nutrients like blueberries. My DS loves those.

We had a strange teething pattern too. He got two top before he got any bottom. I think they all just do things differently to keep us on our toes!

My DD's teeth have come in unusually also. She has 4 incisors on top, 3 on bottom and all 4 molars. Doesn't look like the cuspids and missing incisor are anywhere near ready to show, although DD has been acting like she is teething again.

I always serve DD exactly what DH and I are having for dinner, and I try to make certain the DD sees both DH and I enjoying our food. I try to engage DD in the experience by nodding my head when she is trying something and asking if it is yummy. This usually works for getting DD to eat more of it. My DD is just about opposite yours though, she prefers meat and beans, usually eats veggies and fruit, and hardly touches pasta and bread! :-)

I wouldn't worry about her teeth. Although there are typical patterns in which they come in, all kids are different. My daughter was born with the two bottom teeth already erupted but they will never fully develop because they are not developing enamel (most likely due to her birthmother's nutrition during pregnancy), and our pediatric dentist is not concerned about the prognosis of her permanent teeth. She also didn't get any other teeth at all until about 14 months and then got them all except the 2-year molars withing about 4-6 weeks!

If you are really concerned, visit a pediatric dentist. They can see their teeth, etc. so much better than we can.

Kim, I can't be too much help with the teeth part....see my post from two nights ago about "liv only has 4 teeth'. The mamas assured me that everything is fine, and kids develop at their own pace.
As far as the food goes, Liv is doing the same thing! She loves carbs, but I keep exposing her to beans, yogurt, cheese, (all of which she really loves) and I also give her veggie burgers, chicken and beef (not so crazy about). she actually ate a hunk of cuke the other day,,,,she is mimicking me. So, I don't eat beef but DH does, I am hoping she will watch him :)
Liv won't eat pasta, but loves bread...so I put soynut butter on. She loves it, but is a pain to clean up.
she really likes veggies, sigh. I figure I will just keep offering, and it is her job to eat it, or not. Good luck!
