Default 4-month-old rolling over in sleep -- help!

For the last month now, my ds has been rolling over onto his tummy in his sleep. That would be ok except for the whole screaming bloody murder until I come get him. Then I have to nurse to get him back to sleep.

Before he started rolling over, he actually was sleeping through the night most nights. Now? Not so much. So he's not necessarily hungry when he awakes, it's just that nursing is what calms him (not that I mind the nursing, it's just that he was doing so well before the rolling!)

Any advice on how to keep him from rolling over? For some reason my first DS never had problems with this, so I have no clue what to do.

And advice would be so appreciated!

DD was the same way. Great sleeper until she learned to roll over at 4 months. And she hated to be on her tummy. I think after a couple of weeks she got comfortable on her tummy and was able to sleep that way. Honestly, I am not sure that you can do much to prevent him from rolling over. I would give him as much tummy time as he can tolerate during the day. He'll eventually learn to sleep on his tummy or learn to roll back the other way. Hang in there. Hopefully someone will have some concrete advice to help you.

Thanks, Marci. We're working on tummy time, and he's not a big fan. I'll step up the regimen ;)

My dh suggested in jest that we velcro the back of his jammies to his crib mattress. I think part of him may have been seriously considering the possiblity. Hee.

LOL... that is too funny.
I don't know if this would work at all but could you use one of those sleep positioner? I had one for DD when she was a newborn although I never used it I was just thinking maybe he couldn't roll over the triangle spongy part of the positioner? Just a thought if you have one laying around.

DD was never a big fan of tummy time either. Actually, she would scream bloody murder the second we would put her down. Putting her on a boppy pillow helped a little, though. It's funny though, she ended up sleeping quite happily on her tummy after awhile.

Velcro, Hmmm. ;-). Maybe another use for duct tape :P.

My friend actually did this! She safety-pinned her DS's sleeper to the crib sheet at some point. My DS1 had this problem in reverse. He loved to sleep on his tummy and would scream if he found himself on his back. What worked temporarily was a sleep sack. It restricted his legs a bit and that was enough to keep him from rolling over. Eventually it stopped working, but by then he had learned to go both ways.

Yup, used one of those, too, for his reflux. He just scoots off it and rolls over. He's pretty tricky that way ;)

Honestly, when he said it, we both kind of went "hmm ..." It's funny your friend tried it! maybe if I become sleep-deprived enough ...!
