Default Opinions on America's Best Eyeglasses? and Acuevue Oasis?

I have decided that I have neglected my eyes long enough and need to make an appt. I currently wear soft disposable contacts. I change them every month (or am supposed to). By the end of the day, my eyes are so dry so I would like to try the Oasis. Has anyone tried these? How about America's Best? Is this a decent place to go for eye exams? I have been going to Vision World before and they have failed to impress me. I'm not real tough to please either. Any input would be great. Thanks! :)

Default RE: Opinions on America's Best Eyeglasses? and Acuevue Oasis?

I had been wearing the Acuevue original for ever. The last time I went to get my eyes checked, the dr. suggested I switch to Oasis. I did and am not too thrilled. I wear the lenses for 1 week, take them out for a few days then put them back for about another 5 days or so. The first week they are fine- same as reg. acuevue. The 2nd week, when I wake up, my eyes have a lot of eye gunk in them, are crusty and I feel like I can't see well towards the end of the day (like right now, I'm squinting at the computer monitor and am uncomfortable). I wonder if I'm the only one who gets like this...

I have no info on the glasses place, but if you do get them, make sure you get the rx from your eye dr. and order them online. I think I saved about $130 on a year's supply with rebates and ordering online.

Good luck! Ruth

I had been wearing Acuvue regular for eons until last year, they became so dry and uncomfortable, I had to stop wearing them. I saw the eye doctor, who recommended lubricating eye drops or switching to Oasis. I switched to Oasis and feel fine again. It really made a difference for me, and I don't even need those eye drops now. I go to a local eye doctor (not a chain).

I haven't been to America's Best in over 10 years, but I never liked my glasses from them. I felt like the lenses weren't ground properly. I've been happy with Walmart optical, Sam's and most recently Costco.
I have happily used the Acuevue 2 for years, and last month I had an eye check up. The Dr. suggested I try the Oasis, and I can't STAND them. I take them out every night (just like with the 2s) but they feel horrible when I wear them. Gritty, dry, gunky, like when I've waited too long to toss out my other disposables KWIM? And this was in the first week of wearing them! I can't keep them in all day, either. I put them in to leave the house, and they are out by dinner. Ick. I'm also experiencing halos even during the day. Super duper ick!
Thankfully it was just a free trial pair, but now I have to get the Dr. to change the prescription back to Acuevue 2. What a pain in the rear.
HTH,
Molly

My doc rec Oasis and peroxide cleaning also. It's working out ok so far. I think that is recommended if you have dry eyes and protein build up.

Thanks all! Nice to know about America's Best not being the best with glasses. I think I'll make an appt elsewhere.

Seems like reviews on the Oasys are pretty mixed. I don't know if I'll take a chance for the increased cost!

Thanks again everyone! :)

Here is a good visual:

I thought it would be complicated and messy, but it is the same amount of effort as the regular cleaning system.

thanks- that's like taking care of your lenses the old fashioned way!
