Can I ship first class and just leave it in my mailbox for my mailman to pick up....I notice that to schedule an official carrier pick-up you have to have at least one priority package. Or is this rude???

You can leave 1st class OR priority packages right in your mailbox along with any other outgoing mail. I do it all the time.
