Default DS hates having pictures taken

This week I've made 2 attempts to have DS 2 yr pictures done. He warms up to the camera at home just fine. They were oh so patient at the studio and tried all sorts of bribery (Portrait innovations) but he just didn't want anything to do with the photo area. I don't know if the jumbo white background did it, or if other screaming children were too much of a distraction. Tuesday we actually go some shots...I should have just taken them and run....today he wouldn't even go in the room.

I rebooked for tomorrow and plan to have DH meet us there for more support. But I'm having second thoughts of trying again so soon. I'm wondering if I just need to spend the big bucks and go to a professional place where it might not be so intimidating.

I don't have any experience with 2yr pics or the chain studios, but we used a professional for Doras pics and loved him so much we're going back for Arwyn's pics. I learned about him from another mom, and his fees were reasonable. What I really liked was that because you make an appt, you don't have to wait, the session is 15 minutes tops, and the photographer, who has kids of his own, was some kind of genius at getting Dora to smile. No one else was around except the assistant, which was perfect as Dora was scared of too much noise when she was little.

I would check around the professional studios in your area and see if any of them offer baby packages. We joined a 1 year Kids Club that gave us 2 sittings, a free 4x6, and prints at Club prices, which were almost half of the regular. They also had a baby panel which gave you 4 sittings and a pic for 3, 6, 9, and 12 months, with a 4 shot frame, although extra prints were at regular prices. That didn't work for us, which is why we did the Club.

DD HATED having her pic taken for quite a while. It was so much fun!! What we finally found out is that we really needed to follow her lead. She really dispised sitting for pics for a while, so when we let her just stand, she was much happier (but not thrilled) and the pics were much better (but still not great). When she hit about 2 1/2, it was SOOOOO much better. Even the photogs were shocked it was the same kid!

FWIW, we go to Sears, where there are several individual photo areas that are pretty seperated from the waiting area. Maybe someplace like that would be easier for your DS?

DD was fine getting her picture taken until her 2 year pictures. At one point, she walked out of the room and said "I'm going home." Our photographer was great too -- so patient -- she also fell on the floor laughing when DD walked out. It was the flash that did it for DD. She wanted no part of it at all. I was surprised because we went to Sears and they use a handheld digital camera so I can't believe that she was freaked by it. Although, DD walked out and wasn't happy, the photographer got 6 pictures and of those 2 were beautiful and 2 were usuable! I hope that you have better luck tomorrow.

We had someone in our MOMS Club who comes to your house and does the pictures there. I thought the rate was pretty reasonable and it was the only chance I figured we had to get "professional" pictures. I didn't think DS would manage at a studio at all. The pictures came out great. Honestly, I don't know how much it costs at those places, but $150 included her coming to the house, the sitting fee, and a about 8 pictures. Any extras we needed to order. Maybe that's a lot, but it was totally worth it to have some great pictures in our backyard and not worry about taking DS to a studio.

i hope things went better for you the second time around..
ds loved getting his picture taken at 18 mo. we couldn't decide they were all so good. at 2 he did horrible. we have one where he is half smiling and half crying. that was an easy choice. he also hates the dr. now. we went today and the weighing table freaked him out. he also hates haircuts..

ds loves to get his picture taken at home so i am thinking it is the table?? give us an update on her you made out!!

I remember trying to get 2 yr old portraits done. Enter studio, all is fine. change clothes, all is fine. Put ds down to pose, the screaming, crying, and clinging begin! Apparently, between 18mo and 2yr ds had developed a fear of the portrait studio. :) My solution: portraits were done at 2 1/2 yrs instead :)
