i'm sorry to have worried everyone! we're OK!!!!!

the long story:
We're on COBRA insurance right now as DH has switched jobs (continuation of our previous group coverage) and our new insurance kicks in sept 1. we *thought* we had until the last day of the month to postmark our august COBRA premium payment. i sat down to write the check out and put it in an envelope last night and see this on the stub: "Postmark all premiums within 30 days of due date. Late postmarks will cause final termination." HOLY $#*%! we had until YESTERDAY to postmark it...not today! i didn't see this until just after midnight our time. there was nothing we could do in our time zone. anyone who has dealt with insurance will know that a lapse in coverage is DEVASTATING. Not only would PC's surgery not have been covered (it was august 13, our coverage would have been canceled as of august 1), but our future carriers would not have been legally bound to cover any pre-existing conditions EVEN if it was group coverage. between DH's cancer, my myriad of health problems, and DS' cleft we'd be talking HUNDREDS of thousands of dollars every year in medical costs that we would forever more be paying OUT OF POCKET. it would have surely bankrupted us. i was utterly hysterical (i actually fainted when i realized our error). my monthly medications alone are more than $500. can you say SCREWED??? i was totally beside myself with worry...the only thing we could think to do was find someone in a time zone earlier to get to a post office or fedex and get a check in the mail as of the 30th. so i put up frantic posts on every message board i'm on trying to find someone to help us.

so many people offered to help in any way they could. i cannot tell you how much it meant to me to have practical STRANGERS reach out in the middle of the night to try and help my family. it's like having the best support network EVER. while on the phone with another BBB mommy, something she said made me go, "DUH!I have an aunt in alaska!!!" i don't know why it hadn't occurred to me before that she was even earlier than western time. i got a hold of her and she was able to help! her car was in the shop and she'd been drinking a bit so she was kinda tipsy (LOL), so she took a CAB to the AIRPORT post office and got a check mailed postmarked 30th august!

i can't believe it worked out. thanks to EVERYONE who offered help, said a prayer, sent a positive vibe, or mustered some mojo. I have the best extended family in the world.
