Does anyone here make up goody bags for all the kids in your DC's preschool classes during holidays? I was surprised on Halloween to find goody bags (exactly like you'd get at a birthday party, only holiday themed) from several different people in my DDs cubby, so I've been wondering just how much of a standard thing it is at preschools!

No, not the norm at all here for any holiday. At the end of the school year last year 2 kids gave out gifts though. I had considered that idea too (I was thinking of disposable cameras for the kids) but never did it.
I know ds' school discourages food treats for the holidays but I don't know if they are anti goodie bags of any variety. Beth

I was surprised by this too! DS attends a full day / daycare program vs pre school. I'm surprised at the "party favors" that come home too from celebrating the kids birthdays! Pure junk that ends up in the trash within a few days.

I can't remember if I did it for Christmas or not. I usually do most holidays that we celebrate (Easter, Valentines, St. Patricks, etc..). Often I'll do a chocolate something, a holiday pencil & eraser, and stickers. I try not to get too junky....

I just asked ds's preschool teacher about bringing in treats for his birthday next week. She said a simple treat would be fine but the school has asked absolutely no goodie bags for birthdays. She said it had really gotten out of hand with some of the elaborate and expensive goodie bags that parents were bringing in for their child's birthday. I was relieved to hear this because it honestly never crossed my mind to send goodie bags...I was more thinking cupcakes and juice boxes. I'd hate for ds to wonder why everyone else's mommy gave presents to the class and his mommy didn't. Maybe it's a preschool thing, I've taught at the elementary level for 10 years and I don't ever remember a parent sending in goodie bags to the whole class....

I do it, and a handful of other moms do it, too. We sent them to Truman's kindergarten class, too, but no one else did, so I guess we won't do it anymore for Truman. :(
But at least I get two more years of putting them together for Eleanor! Jeanne Mom to Truman 11/01 and Eleanor 4/04 |

Yep, we got five bags of candy and cheap plastic halloween things! My DD was delighted with the plastic spider and bat rings (she still puts them on to wear when we go out), but everything else has been gradually getting "lost" in the trash can. ;) I've been thinking about maybe doing it for Christmas if I can come up with some inexpensive ideas that don't fall in the candy or plastic junk category!
