My dad's car is pretty old, and the backseats only have lap belts. I wanted to get the Regent in there, but just remembered about the seatbelts.
Would it still work? Thank You!! |

Yes, it can be used with a lap only belt.
See page 16 & 17 of the manual linked below. Page 8 discusses the types of seatbelts this restraint canNOT be used with. http://www.britaxusa.net/pdf/guide_regent.pdf Also, you MUST use the Versa-tether (top tether) once the child reaches 50lbs. If the car doesn't have a top tether restraint (i.e. is older than '00 or '01 model year, I believe) then it might be possible to have it retrofitted by the auto dealer. Hth. |

hmmm, well thats good news and bad news.
Dad's car is waay old. It's a hatchback so there is nothing behind the back seat except the trunk space. If we took it to an auto dealer, where might they anchor it to, I wonder? Thank you for your reply! |

www.saferidenews.com may have more information on adding tethers (if not, DO email them, they really may be able to help with 'generic' anchor installation).

thanks Julie,
Nancy over there was very helpful. Toyota says it costs $95 per hour for labor to install any tether anchors. Ordering the kit from them is around $13. I dont know what to do. I honestly dont think I can afford the installation right now. Keeping my son in the Wizard in the lap belt, seems like the only option right now. Im off to find out how long he can stay in that seat. Since it does not specifically say that over 50lbs. requires a tether on the Wizard. ho hum. Edited to add that the user manual states that the Wizard is for children 48 inches and under. hahaha. my kid is 48 inches. Great. What do I do now? help. |

Don't worry about the stated height limit...all kids are different shapes, and you just have to make sure his shoulders aren't above the top harness position (that's a more appropriate 'when is my child too tall' measure, but the government requires a 'height' to be listed, so they just guess).
Glad that SRN was helpful (phew, lol, I've never referred anyone to them directly, but I've met them before and they are such nice folks!) :) Julie CPS Tech and mom to 3 in seats http://www.cpsafety.com/articles/RFAlbum/SarahMA.aspx |

Yeah, Nancy was super nice and we were emailing each other back and forth and she went the extra mile in finding toyota serial parts for me and stuff like that.
She is great. |
