Kael is 13 months, about 23lbs, 32" long (roughly). He's wearing size 4 Pampers Cruisers with no problem and Huggies Overnights in size 4. Lately, the Overnights have been leaking on the side (he's a side sleeper). In the past he's leaked before (once in a while) but in the last 3-4 weeks, he's leaked about 1-2 times a week. A WEEK! It's gotten to where I expect to find a leak every morning.
Can I tell you how much I hate changing crib sheets? Anyway, the Overnights say it's for 22-37lbs. I can't believe that Kael is ready to move onto the next size. How can Huggies be that off in their measurements? But I can't think of anything else that would cause him to leak so much. He's sleeping the same amount of hours (9-11 hours) and he's actually nursing less before bedtime. He starting to self wean (boo-hoo, but that's another story). So do you think I should go up a size? Also, we have Huggies Supremes in size 4 - should I change those to 5's too? I read that I can put a diaper cover over the 'sposie at night to help with the leaks - would that be too hot? I don't want to cook his.. err.... little guys. :P |

I think Huggies Supremes run really small. My DS fits into Ultratrims really well and we've never had a leak over night. He's a night nurser/side sleep too. He's a little smaller, 20.5 lbs, 30.5 inches and wears a size 3.

My sister's 2yo wears a 4 in the Ultratrims so she was surprised that Kael was wearing 4's at 9 months.
Maybe I'm just used to him wearing his diapers hiked halfway up his chest... :D I guess I'm predisposing him to nerdhood! |

My DS wears sz4 Cruisers during the day but we had to go to sz 5 Huggies Overnights for night-time, he leaked out of anything else. Huggies are definitely smaller. Looks a little weird but it's working for us.

DS is 26 lbs. and 33" and is still in Huggies size 4. We use Ultratrims/Baby-shaped and Overnights. I thought he might be outgrowing them though and since the lower weight limit of the size 5's is 27 lbs. I tried some. They were way too big. So I think they would be way too big for your DS too. DH is buying Supremes in size 5 tonight so I can check how they compare and let you know if you are interested. What I have done when DS leaks in the Huggies Overnights is to use a disposable diaper doubler for a few days or weeks, depending on how wet he seems in the morning. They are available at BRU supposedly, but I don't have one around here so I order them online from [link:www.nwenteral.com/Detail.bok?searchpath=41679409100488363c621&catego ry=Incontinence&start=1&total=19&no=18|diaperdoubl er.com]. They are about $35 shipped for a case of 180 (our case lasted well over a year since we didn't use one every night, but I need to order more soon.)

Jennifer -
How did the 5's fit Jacob? A friend had a 5 in the Supremes to give me and you're right - it's big for Kael. He had a big ol' bubble butt and the leg holes were loose. I don't think he's a Huggies baby. Pampers definitely fit him better. I just had a bunch of coupons that I didn't want to go to waste. As for the doubler, can I wrap them on his side? Even when he leaks out, the diaper isn't that heavily soaked (we've had 5 pounders before so I know the diaper could hold more). I think we're either putting it on wrong (that would be strange at this late age) or he's outgrown the size 4 Overnight. Or maybe the diaper needs to be tighter to his crotch so the pee is soaked in rather than running down?? I don't know.... He was doing pretty well with the 4's earlier. He had a huge leak again this morning. I went and bought 2 more flannel crib sheets so I don't have to do laundry every other day. I'm open to any suggestions! |

Don't know about the doublers, but when I put the Overnights size 5 on DS, they go halfway up his torso! They seem way big when they go on, but in the morning, they are all filled up and no leaks. I make sure the side front tabs are wrapped well around and that seems to be working. He still fits fine in 4's for daytime use, I would never put him in a 5 in the daytime.

I finally tried the size 5 Supremes on Jacob and they actually fit him pretty well - much better than the size 5 Ultra-trims/Baby-shaped. They are a bit long in the crotch still but not too bad. But Jacob is a little bigger than Kael, so I could see that the Supremes would still be too big for him.
I don't know about wrapping the doubler on the side. I suppose if you had some you could try it, but you'd have to use 2 a night unless you cut them in half. Have you tried using Pampers for overnight? It sounds like Huggies might not be working for you at this point. The whole reason we switched to Huggies Overnites was because Pampers leaked for us a night. But Jacob has always leaked out the front, never out the sides. Jennifer mom to Jacob 9/27/02 |
