Sewing diapers...

I know you guys think I'm going totally crazy with CD's already, but I'm getting even more gung-ho now. So watch out!

I'm thinking of trying my hand at making some dipes my babes (not to resell or anything, just for our own use). Partly because I'm in the mood for a new hobby and partly because I'm curious about the price difference, if there is any. Not to mention, I'm finding many of the fabric selections (esp for boys) less than desirable....but I'm picky.

Can anyone recommend some patterns or diaper supply shops to check out? I'm thinking fitteds and some basic fleece covers to start with. Aside from a good machine, anything else I should look into acquiring?

LOL, you could just do what I do..buy outer fabric you like and send it to WAHMs! :) I have done a lot of customs that way and am going through fabric now to send off..

My crazy butt just bought the Darling Diapers AIO pattern (www.darlingdiapers.com) based on recommendations from the Diaper sewing forum at MDC. I would check that forum out--there's a "sticky note" at the top of the forum listing all kinds of diaper-sewing-supply shops and patterns. And you can search within it for reviews or talk about the patterns. Another one that got good reviews was the Very Baby pattern, but I liked that I could do side-closure with the DD. And I think you can adapt the pattern for fitteds and covers as well as AIOs.

I've done the same thing in the past with sending fabrics to WAHMs. If I find prints that I love, it's worth it to me to send the fabric with a custom order.
