10 week old DS and I are doing a mom-baby NIA dance class which is wonderful---he loves it and it feels so good to sweat after months of not exercising! So far, I've been holding him in my arms for the hour-long class as do some of the other moms, but most have Baby Bjorns and there are also a few Ergos. While holding him is sweet, a carrier seems like a good idea too.
Have any of you exercised with your babes in carriers, and if so, which ones work? I do not want to buy a Baby Bjorn, and have read mixed reviews of Ergos (including that it might not be appropriate for such a young baby). I'm wondering if a wrap carrier would work---an Ellaroo or a Hug-a-Bub----or if a front carrier like a Kozy would do the trick. At home we dance around with our sling collection, but the NIA class is a bit too active for a sling (plus don't want to get that Zolo sweaty!). Any thoughts? |

I would recommend the HaB over the Kozy or the Ergo. I love the latter two, but I don't think I'd like them for exercise. Hiking with the Ergo is great, but I don't know about anything that would have a little bounce in it. The waist band would get in the way for me, too, if there were any kind of flexibility required.
The HaB will be more secure and support baby's head much better than the others. The only downside is that it will be more layers to make you even sweatier! The Ellaroo could work out well, too, but I think the HaB is pretty much the most secure carrier I've ever tried. And if you needed to take out baby during the session, you would have to re-wrap your Ellaroo but just pop him back in the HaB. BTW, what's NIA? |

Thanks---that's exactly the sort of information that I needed. And, of course, who wouldn't love an excuse to get a HaB!!
I'm not sure what NIA stands for, but in my first class, the instructor said it was a combination of dance, yoga, and martial arts. So far (three classes), it seems like mostly dance to me, about half choreographed and half improvised, with some yoga breathing and the occasional karate yell thrown in. Its great fun, and wonderful to see all the little babies dancing around the room with their moms! |
